Owner description: Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

It is a perfect even for all ages. There is something for everyone! Make sure you drop into the bmo centre and wander the vendor for all the best deals on all the neatest things, and always try the newest food to come each year. They can deep dry about anything

the Calgary Stampede this year was extraordinary; not that the midway was better, or the rodeo bigger, or the chuckwagons faster but that it happened at all. The flood hit the Stampede grounds badly and in the space of two weeks the organizers pulled off a miracle and the Greatest Outdooe Show on Earth opened. Residents and long time Stampede goers would have noticed that there were fewer vendors, that parts of the Big Four Building and all of the SaddleDome were off limits, and that the Erlton Entrance was shifted but no one else would have. The city as always joined in - with bank clerks and bus drivers decked out in western gear and free breakfasts everywhere. Always good but this year was amazing!

I cannot believe they pulled it off!?! Wow, shows how people can come together and make it happen. After the terrible flooding in late June, the entire downtown was covered in water/mud/silt. Anyone who watched the news or internet was bombarded with photo's of the devastation. The most memorable photo of the Saddledome filled with water up to the 10th seating level.
The show must go on...... and with the private backers of the Stampede it certainly did. the weather was not the best and certainly numbers were down compared to previous years but still one of the greatest shows on earth. The electric energy/enthusiasm was in the air and it was contagious!!!!!!
I always amazes me that people from all over the world come to Calgary for this 10 day event. The kickoff is the parade that lasts for 2.5 hours and people pick their seats the night before. i have not attended the parade for 20 years but this year I made the effort. I cried, just simply cried when I saw the emergency workers who were the first to arrive on the flood scene. i cried when I heard the bagpipes, I cried when I saw the Mayor, tears of being a proud Calgarian/Canadian. (Atleast for a week, I am living in Mexico).
There is so much to see and do....... rides, games, events, animals, art, FOOD, music, dance, CULTURE, history and great people watching.
Calgary, COME HELL OR HIGHWATER you pulled it off!!!!!!!!!

Book early for the Rodeo. Get your tickets in the infield for a real western experience . (about 5 rows up from the rail,as it may rain) If you cannot get in the infield , get yourself to the airconditioned Club house.

The Calgary Stampede does not disappoint! Even this year after severe flooding just 2 weeks before the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth" was to begin, Calgary pulled off the event in fine fashion. One can easily spend all day on the grounds and not have enough time, even without doing any of the rides. The evening Grand Stand show is not to be missed; admission to the Grand Stand is additional but that ticket will get you to the grounds and take care of your admission price. An outstanding event and easily worth giving two days to.
