Owner description: Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

So much to do, so little time. Whether you are alone, with a family, or with a group of friends, you won't run out of things to see and do at the Stampede. but beware...bring a loaded wallet with you!

You may have heard that we've had a catastrophic 100-year flood here in Calgary, one that flooded our downtown, many of our communities, and the CALGARY STAMPEDE grounds.....

Well, be not dismayed.....Calgary is rising to the challenge, and even as the flood waters disappear back into the normally tranquil Elbow River, the grounds are being swept clean, and soon the carnival outfits will arrive.....it may be slightly different this year, BUT IT WILL HAPPEN.(why even Chris Hafield, the reknowned Canadian astronaut will be here as the Parade Marshall on July 5th...so get yer cowboy duds and com'on down!

I feel so sorry to hear the news of the recent flooding that has affected Calgary and hope that this wonderful show will still be able to go ahead in a couple of weeks. This review is late but I felt I had to add my comments because of the flooding that may affect this great show. If you get the chance this" is a must". My husband and I attended the Calgary Stampede a couple of years ago whilst travelling around Canada from the UK. I was not that keen to see "chuck wagon racing" and a rodeo, wow was I wrong, it was absolutely amazing. The rodeo during the day and the chuck wagon racing during the evening followed by a spectacular show and firework display. I defy anyone not to get "fired up" and involved in all that is going on, it is a great spectacle. I know the Calgarians tend to leave the city because this show takes over with street shows and processions but it is an amazing event. If you ever get the chance - just do it!

It's the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, what more can you say? Well, it's also very pricey and super crowded. It costs us at least $200 to take our kids there for a day. There are ways to save money, like going on family day or arriving super early, but even then, by the time you buy snacks and some rides, it is very expensive. If you do it, make sure to get the rides pass at Safeway before the first day of the Stampede - this is the only reasonable way to do it.
I really wish that the organizers would make it more affordable for families - gouge the drinkers with liquor prices but make it so regular people can afford to get their kids some treats without breaking the bank.
