We were looking for some place that had a good breakfast close to where we were in Calgary. We originally were going to go to a different place down the road but it was lined up, so we asked an employee at a store where another good place to eat was and he recommended The Main Dish. Boy are we glad the first place was lined up(we have since went to that place and it wasn't even close).
Fresh made to order food. Friendly, very knowledgeable staff and decent prices. At first when you walk in, it looks like one of those artsy, granola-crunching places, but it is so much more.
We like it so much that for the four days we were in Calgary we ate there three times!

If you are anywhere in Calgary it is not that hard to get to, and Definitely worth it.

Very hungry, my friend and I went to the restaurant at lunch time today, Sept. 25 hoping the restaurant is a welcoming place where we can enjoy our lunh together. We find the food really good, but customer service is very bad! Telling us, your customer that you are busy is NOT a good thing to do. Be happy that you have customers. Serving without smiling is another bad thing to do when you are in this kind of business. my friend and i asked each otehr whether we will come back and both of us agreed NOT TO. You see, no matter how good your food is but if the service is bad, you cant expect customers to go back to your place. I hope this feedback helps for your benefit.

This is a good sized take out venue with a huge selection of hot and cold dishes. Great for take out. There are some tables and chairs. Convenient but not a nice choice if you want to "dine".

This is a neighbourhood take out eat in place where you may go for lunch or breakfast. I think you would be better to look at it as a take out place with tables.
We went twice for breakfast on the weekend, they have a fair amount of choices, the price is not crazy, which can happen at the good breakfast spots lately. But there is no service and you come away full but frustrated. A good amount of the staff are just arrogant, the thought of actually providing the customer with a good experience is not even close to what they are thinking. You must place your order yourself, the menu is written at the front of the station that cooks breakfast, so everyone in your party must go up and read the menu so that they can order, there are no menus on the tables. Similar to when you eat at the food court in the mall. Once the order is placed they give you a stand with a number on it, which you are suppose to put on your table. When your order is ready the staff will walk around and attempt to find you to deliver your order , but make sure to pay attention, they don't look too hard to find you. You also must place your drink order at another station, if you are having coffee with breakfast the staff will not come around offering more coffee, you will need to get it yourself. I will not go back, there are so many great breakfast places around Bridgeland and Edmonton Trail that have great service and great food, not a great experience at The Main Dish, and the food? It was okay, nothing more.

We ate there for lunch and had one of the sandwiches. It's was so good. Also tried the apple coleslaw. Really tasty too. I loved all the selection of food to take home. Lots of things for different diets. I'm from Winnipeg and I wish we had something like that here.
