Came to Lake Louise with a buddy on a ski trip. Asked the girl at our hotel for a dinner recommendation and she said this WAS the place to eat for dinner and promptly made us a dinner reservation. A short walk from the hotel brought us to this very scenic location for a restaurant. As soon as I walked in I knew this was going to be a great dining event. Ordered the special, elk lasagna which was awesome! It was a great experience to be eating dinner in an old train station with a huge roaring fire in the hearth and the odd train flying by the window. I'm certainly coming back here to eat with my family when we come back!

Three families (14 people) went for supper. The food was great. The service was quick and friendly. They took special food concerns (allergies) seriously and were accommodating. Our group of 14 was loud but no one cared - we had our own separate dining area. The meals were $25-30 per entree but the food was very good.

We were in Lake Louise in February for a ski trip. After reading the reviews we decided to try out the Station Restaurant. We had a reservation for 8 pm. We were skiing in Sunshine that day and afterwards drove into Banff to check out some shops and walk around and then drove back to have dinner at The Station. Well you can imagine our disappointment when we arrived and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed due to unforseen circumstances or something like that! They didn't even call us to let us know. And if anyone knows Lake Louise there are not a lot of options for dinner at 8 pm on a Monday. And we had just left Banff where there were plenty of options. It was just so inconsiderate and especially given we could see people in there sitting around the bar. Seems to me they just decided to close due to lack of business that night but they should have had the courtesy to call those of us who had reservations.

The old station is a well maintained, cosy and atmospheric building right on the train line and very occasionally the train actually stops and lets off passengers on the platform. It is no longer used as a station, but has been converted into a restaurant and small shop. Wood is everywhere, on the floors and ceiling, walls and stairs, tables and chairs, and there is a large fireplace which was very welcoming on a cold Canadian night. Photographs and posters of trains gone by covered the walls. The menu looks quite ambitious, but the execution was very uneven. Of four of us, two had dry fish and one had a very ordinary piece of chicken and one had a truly excellent streak. There was an interesting medley of vegetables that included my favourite, parsnips, and that very American native, yellow squash, but they were unevenly cooked and seasoned. We tried a local red wine, enthusiastically endorsed by our rather odd waiter, and unusually for us we left some behind in our glasses at the end of the meal. There aren't many restaurants in Lake Louise, and we were desperately tired of our hotel food, but would we go back? Probably not.
