A cycling friend from Banff recently introduced me to the Bistro here as an option to fighting the tourists in the Lake Louise village. I was planning a large group ride with approximately 30 people so we made a reservation for early afternoon. The chef, Nigel, was very accommodating and arranged a healthy 3 course lunch for our group. Our server was amazing and worked very hard to get our food out as we arrived in waves. On reflection the 3 courses were more than we needed however we decided to relax and enjoy the experience on a beautiful fall day. The atmosphere is simple but cozy. Thanks to the Bistro team for a terrific stop! The CycleTherapy team.

It is easy to miss the Baker Creek Bistro if you aren't paying attention. It is located on the largely deserted Bow Valley Parkway away from all the hubbub of Lake Louise and Banff. We found the Bistro just after we had just checked in to a great cabin at the Baker Creek Chalets and were famished from three days of long hikes. All I can say is, we got lucky. Although the inside dining room is similar to that of some other legendary cabin restaurants in Jackson Hole, Vail, and other parts of the Rockies, we chose to eat on one of the large and very nice picnic tables outside where we could see the mountains all around us while there was still some daylight. Our server was energetic, polite, knowledgeable about the details of the recipes, and attentive. The food was amazing. We had an Elk osso buco and pan-seared trout along with a really nice St. Emilion grand cru Bordeaux wine. Ice wine for dessert. It was an awesome meal.

This is not the quick cold sandwich, hamburger, cole slaw, restaurant that some people might expect as they rush from the SUV to the next hiking spot and back to the hotel room. This restaurant is a destination in itself.

We did notice that the restaurant is getting popular. We strongly recommend a reservation.

We ate here two nights later and managed to meet the chef. British by origin, he has lived and worked in the Banff area for more than 20 years. His cooking style is mostly French, based upon his training he says. Based upon our experience with his cooking, we will be back and can't wait. Fresh air, beautiful views, great food and wine, friendly service. it doesn't get any better than that.

The rib eye we had too much fat for the price and was chewy. Service was OK, but not for the price. We will not be going back.
