It's just one of those places you have to go see. Fabulous lake, amazing views, and of course the hotel.

This is another famous beauty spot with some nice walking alongside it. About 1.5 hours should get you to an old teahouse which opens in summmer. A must do.
Keep looking up the lake. Forget about the huge hotel dominating the view looking away from the lake. A spectacular location.
Stunningly beautiful location, wonderful hiking, great food and worth every cent. The Fairmont is a great hotel.
We stopped here for 1 1/2 hours during an 8 hour bus tour that we were on. The location of this hotel is stunning. Lunch was included in our tour at the deli. We were going to take our sandwiches outside and enjoy the view, but unfortunately it was raining. The dining room that overlooks the lake is stunning. We went back there a few days later hoping to have lunch in the dining room. Unfortunately, this was at the time that Alberta was experiencing record-breaking flooding. Some of the roads in and out of Banff were closed, so I'm assuming there wasn't much in the way of supplies being delivered to the area. Because of this, the Chateau was only serving guests (I guess they wanted to make sure they wouldn't run out of food) - totally understandable. It was nice to see that they were putting their own guests first. Next time we're in Banff, we'll definitely be going there for lunch.
