Unfortunately we didn't see any Grizzly Bears on our visit except for the one in the Interperative Centre at the top. And there was little danger of him moving!
The views of Lake Louise from the top were superb as was the information offered by the warden Cat C.
You can have a buffet breakfast included in the price of the gondola ride for only an extra $2 which made for really good value.

We arrived fairly early around 9.30 am and bought our tickets. We hadn't realised that we could have had our breakfast there on a combined ticket for little more than the price of the gondola.
We had to watch a short safety video then we made our was to the gondola. We chose the open chair which is very safe and comfortable. Closed gondolas are available also.
Not long after we started to climb the mountain we spotted a grizzly munching on the foliage below us. We got some great photos. At the top we walked along to the bear information station. We listened to an excellent talk about the parks management of wild animals. It was explained why people were kept from certain areas to allow the bears to remain wild and safe. The static exhibition was very good as well.
As we descended the mountain we saw what we believe was the same bear still grazing happily.
If you do go try and go as early as possible so you get the best chance to see one of these magnificent creatures in the wild.

Hello and thank you for your review of the sightseeing gondola.

You give some excellent advice on making the most of your visit to the sightseeing gondola. Enjoying the breakfast buffet with your visit can be done for as little as $3.

Visiting early is a great way to make the most of the facilities and is prime bear viewing time.

The 15 minute ride to the observation platform unfortunately didn't include any sightings of the fabulous Grizzly Bears, luckily we had already had that experience, but we understand that these mountain slopes are a prime habitat of the bears and other wildlife, which are frequently seen here. The views towards Lake Louise are stunning. The observation deck is approximately 6,850 feet above sea level and there are further hikes to the summit of Mt. Whitehorn. The Wildlife Interpretive Centre is a short walk down from the observation deck, and is worth a visit, although the walk back to the chair lift certainly pulls on your hamstrings. The ride down is superb, views stunning. A choice of open ski lift chair or enclosed glass carriage is available.

Hi Rogermb,

Thank you for your review. It was unlucky that you were not able to see a Grizzly bear during your visit to the gondola. We are glad that you were able to see one somewhere else however. We experience bears sightings nearly every day from May to the end of August. But as the bears are wild and traveling through the wildlife corridor on their own free will you do need a little luck.

The views of Lake Louise and the interpretive center are always there however and it sounds like you were able to enjoy those.

Ask for Joel Ali at the ticket center. He is an enthusiast who will guide about different ideas. He also guided about times when there would be less crowd, and since we were a family of 9, we did need less crowd. He also mentioned about the buffet next door. I think that was also a great experience, although the food was ok.

Hi,

Thank you for your review. The sightseeing gondola is a great activity for families and we are glad that you were able to share the experience with yours.

The buffet is a great way of increasing the value of any visit. For only $2.20 or $6.50 you can upgrade your gondola ticket to include the breakfast or lunch Buffet.

Hopefully you can come back one day with your family and see the area in winter.

Unlike the Banff Gondola, here you have the option of taking a ski lift chair or enclosed gondola up the mountain. The ride is up is OK, its over the ski slops so not as pretty as the Banff Gondola up Sulfur Mountain. Once to the top there is a walk down the hill (back up later) to the interpretive centre - which we really enjoyed. Great information about the local wild life with rangers available to answer your questions. They also offer presentations, although we did not hang around for it to begin. Again, costly but worth once - we won't go back unless we go skiing.
