“Stay 1 night and you wont want to leave!”
Reviewed November 9, 2008

Stay 1 night at 'The Creek' and you will not want to leave!
I can without doubt promise you that this secluded area with cabins of the very highest standard will leave you teary eyed when it comes to leaving.
We met on arrival the owners who gave us keys to several cabins and we chose which one we wanted with no sales pressure! The room was absolutely spotless and was cleaned every day. The fire inside the cabin makes you feel in the dead of night that you are in the canadian wilderness and then you realise you are! I would encourage anyone to take a stroll down to the rail track in the mornings, make yourself a warm drink and watch the trains roll on by, watch out for the grizzly's and balck bears wandering around also, not to mention the dear strolling through the grounds!
I am considering going to spend a vast amount of time in canada and around baker creek in the very near future, and i currently live in the uk!
Book it, experience it and enjoy it!

If I could ever recommend a place to stay Baker Creek Cabins would be the one-they are fantastic!

We stumbled upon the cabins on our scenic drive to Lake Louise and immediately we knew we had to spend the night there! Fortunately they had availability and we spent the night in one of their jacuzzi suites. It was perfect, from the beautifully carved front door to the wonderful rocking chair beside the fire! I especially loved the books in each of the rooms for guests to add their comments. Everything about this place is magical and we didn't want to leave. You seem to go into a simple, peaceful world whilst staying here and to make things even more spectacular we woke up the next morning to the first snowfall of the season!
I can't compliment the owners and staff enough for what they have created here! Luckily we are emigrating to Calgary very soon from Wales, we can't wait to return to Baker Creek Cabins!

  • Liked — The fantastic cabins, the fire, the jacuzzi, the location, the peace & quiet and the 1st snowfall!
  • Disliked — Nothing at all!

We stayed in a jacuzzi suite for just one night-the last of our trip. The weather had really started to turn into winter so the big fire was much appreciated. The property is in a lovely tranquil setting and I didn't notice the noise from the trains.

The suite was comfortable although it would benefit from a few more lights.

The Bistro was disappointing. It's advertised as the best food the area, with an innovative menu. My husband's fish main course looked very lonely on the plate and was quite boring. It was not good value and I would advise finding somewhere else to eat.

I would return here and stay for 2 or 3 nights to explore the area-we couldn't really make the best of the accommodation on a quick overnight stop.

Had a great four day retreat at the Baker Creek Chalet October 16-19, 2008. Started the first day with a hike to the Johnson Canyon Upper Falls on Thursday. Saw a large bull elk at Protection Point - couldn't care less that we were parked next to him just watching him chomp away. Checked in then ate a great dinner at the Bistro. The food was delicious - Flank Steak with Beef Short Rib. The room was a cozy nook, just enough room to read and relax. Had a small refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee pot w/coffee. Had a small choice of books that I read and even a couple of picture puzzles. The bed was small but quite comfortable. Opened the bedroom window to enjoy the crisp autumn air. Got a slight trace of snow that night. Went for a walk with my wife along the creek over the tracks and down to the Bow River. Saw some large cat tracks so we went back. It started raining so we went into Banff to buy groceries at the Safeway. On the way to Banff we saw three deer, a wolf, and a large owl. Spent the day shopping and listened to some good music at Wild Bills (country & rock). Spent Saturday at Lake Louise hiking and had a great lunch at the Chateau. Got back early and red a book "North to Cree Lake" about the life of two trappers during the "great depression." We also put a picture puzzle of Lake Louise together minus the six missing pieces. We finished Sunday with another dinner at the Bistro "Trout almondine" and the Chocolate pate for dessert. Went for an evening drive and came across a herd of about twenty elk at least half were large bulls. They let us get a cars length away from them. It was too dark to take pictures. What a rare treat. All in all we had a great romantic weekend. There was a little problem with noise above our room (Suite #26) and the first two days the steam room didn't work, but it was corrected as soon as I notified the host.

  • Liked — Location near Banff & Lake Louise, seclusion, beauty
  • Disliked — Some noise from people above - liked the train sounds

We stayed at Baker Creek Chalets in September 2008 in cabin #12. The cabins are situated on the bow valley parkway. The creek on the property is very beautiful and we were fortunate enough to have gorgeous weather when we were there. The only thing I could do without was the train/train tracks which was very close to the property. Not an area you would let young children run around in as the train seemed to run through that area quite often.

Cabins: these were quite nice - our room had a wood burning fire place which was very nice to have given the crisp evenings and mornings in the mountains. Our cabin was a loft cabin which had two beds upstairs in the loft and one bedroom on the main floor.

The kitchen was small and could have been nice except that the oven door was off kilter - We used the fridge but it was in need of repair. The door didn't close very well and it was very noisy.

The place was fairly clean - the walls could have used some washing - it wasn't as clean as I would have liked it. I never saw the housekeeping staff but I do know that they made our beds - which made me feel good that they were at least making rounds.

The grounds are very well manicured and the area is really well kept. The Bistro was very nice and the one night that we ate there it was quite good. Not pricey at all and they even made pizza for my 7 year old who was not interested in anything on the menu.

All in all our experience at Baker Creek was pretty good - we've stayed in other Chalets/Cabins and this one certainly rates up there for price, convenience to great hiking trails and comfort.

I think we would stay there again - our kids loved it and it wasn't outrageously priced.

We just returned from our first trip to the Canadian Rockies where we spent 5 nights at the Baker Creek Chalets. Overall we were pleased with the accommodations and would return again. With that in mind, here is a detailed critique.
Their location on Bow Valley Parkway is quiet and relaxing. It is 13 km to Lake Louise Village. We stayed in Lodge Suite #26 which is on the bottom of two floors. It had a double bed which was okay, but we certainly would have preferred a queen. We were told that the one-bedroom lodge suites were all doubles due to the restraints of the bedroom size. The suite was like a one bedroom apartment. The three burner electric stove worked well but one burner was permanently tilted upwards about 20 degrees. The oven worked well. The refrigerator is small. About the only thing that you can sit upright is a gallon of milk. It held our wine, cheese, butter, bottled waters, etc. The tiny freezer was either not working or just didn’t have the ability to keep anything frozen. For example, the ice tray never even frosted. When we needed ice, we went next door to the Bistro with cup in hand. The suite’s kitchen was a strange mix of mismatched items, including the flatware. It lacked an oven mitt and we asked housekeeping to leave us an extra kitchen towel and dishwashing cloth. The pots and pans were stainless. A brillo pad would have been nice to have. They provide a coffee maker and ground coffee and tea bags. There were two small plates, two larger dinner plates, two cereal bowls, two wine glasses and four plastic cups of two different sizes.
The suite resembled a log cabin. It was comfy and decorated with snow skis and snow shoes. There is a ceiling fan in the living with four attached lights. But one of the bulbs was missing! Housekeeping took care of this when we left them a note. But we were surprised that they hadn’t notice when the room was prepared for our arrival.
The living room has an automatic gas fireplace. That was great---in the crisp mornings (the temps dipped down to freezing) we just turned on the wall heater thermostat and the gas fireplace ignited. Then when it was hot enough, its fans started blowing out hot air. Speaking of heat, the bathroom has an electric heater as did the bedroom.
One early morning about 3am we were awakened by someone going up and down the stairs—they made that journey several times within 15 minutes. Each cabin/suite has a guest journal with scores of entries. Several of those commented about the noise from the upstairs rooms.
Hot water: the water was almost immediately hot and never ran out.
The back porch was great. We had a lovely view of the creek and the woods. When we were in the cabin itself with the porch door open, the sound the creek was inviting. Along the creek are chairs, cooking grills and a wooden swing. Very nice.

Trains---yes there is a train track very close. It was perhaps less than 100 yards from our back porch. When the door/windows were shut and the gas fireplace blower was on, we could not hear it. Otherwise you will hear its rumbling.
Bistro restaurant. We only had one meal at their Bistro and that was for lunch. We had “Oatmeal Crusted Smoke Trout Cakes” $12 each and their daily special which was meatloaf at $14 each. The cakes needed more trout and the meatloaf was slightly overcooked. Their evening menu includes such entrees as “Roasted Squash Perogies,” “Fettuccine Rabbit Carbonara,” Bison Goat Cheese Meatloaf,” and “Lavender Fennel Crusted Wild Sockeye Salmon.” They also have a breakfast buffet and I think the price was $14 each.
We had very convenient car parking next to our room.
The grounds have nice walking paths.
They provided one slow computer located in their Heritage Center for guest use. At times there were several guests waiting for its use. Also in that center is a small library and dozens of guest comment books. We found one for our Suite #26.

The staff that we encountered were all helpful and responsive to our needs.
On the way to Baker Creek we purchased our groceries at Safeway in Banff. Safeway is about 25 km from the Chalets. The nearest grocery store from Baker Creek is 13 km away at Lake Louise and it has high prices. There is no Laundromat at Baker Creek.
Final thought……next time we stay at Baker Creek Chalets we will reserve a second floor one bedroom suite to avoid any of the noise complaints that were documented by past guests who had stayed in our Suite # 26 on the first floor.

Stayed September 2008
