“Wow!”
Reviewed September 22, 2009

Our three days at this hotel were the highlight of a 5-week, 8600-mile auto tour around the US Northwest and Canadian Rockies.
First let me be very clear: this was a complete splurge on our part. We have been longing to stay here since our last visit (1987) when we could not get a room, as bus tours apparently filled the place regularly. So, when I was on-line booking, a "3 nights for 2" offer popped up. We were planning on staying for three, so this was a great bonus. So great that we splurged and booked a lake-view king on the Gold Floor. Ahhh ...
Driving to the front door, we were met by one of the fellows there who ushered us straight to the 7th floor for our "private" check in. Our room was a corner room, two windows. Marvelous! When we arrived at the room, our bags were being delivered. The Gold Floor includes breakfast (excellent) as well as hors d'oeuvres before dinner. These were enough that we skipped dinner the second and third night!
The men and women providing service in the Gold Floor lounge were friendly and knowledgeable. Cannot find fault of any sort during our stay there, except for an often slow elevator.
As others have said, join the free Presidents Club. And, yes, there really is no reason to pay the bucks to stay here unless you can secure a lake-view room. An unforgettable experience.

The view and setting is spectacular, but most rooms are not air conditioned and become uncomfortably over heated from Summer sunshnie. The management seems bent on pumping maximum money from its guests. The breakfast does not offer cereal, the orange juice is watery rubbish made from concentrate, No wireless internet except in the lobby. the rooms are small and cramped and the windows too small to enjoy the view. Rattling creaky elevators, a wardrobe light that has no switch and cuts out when you enter to hang up your jacket. If you are unwise enough to stay join the Presidents Club for free internet. Self parking is $25 per day and 400m walk, valet is $35. The TV reception is noisy and the TV badly set up to stretch pictures to fill the widescreen making people into squat dwarves There are no audio or video plug ins on the TV so forget reviewing your videos or photos. No notepad or pen in the room.
The staff are friendly and helpful its the management policies that are the problem.
The hotel might have been good in the 1950s but its underinvested and tacky now especially at the prices it charges. It reminded me of the hotel in The Shining.

Then only reason to stay here is the setting and the view. If a lake view room is not in your budget, save your money and stay elsewhere because you will be able to take full advantage of all the hotel has to offer because the reality is, Chateau Lake Louise is a tourist destination, first and foremost. The view is incredible to the point the post cards and promotional visuals do not do justice to the real thing. It is a natural wonder.

We had a sixth floor lake view room on the corner of the main building. The room was quite small; however, it was tastefully decorated. The tiled bathroom was equally small though furnished with quality bath linens and personal care amenities. The room was furnished with a queen-size bed, lounge chair, convenience table and two chairs and an armoire which housed a small refrigerator. The closet afforded sufficient storage space and also contained a personal safe.

There are advantages to belonging to Fairmont’s Presidents Club, most noticeably complementary internet access. It also by-passes the usual check-in process in that upon arrival, the parking attendant presents you with your check-in portfolio, room keys included, allowing you to proceed directly to your room. Valet parking is an additional CN$35.00 per day.

The common areas are extensive allowing the hotel to assimilate the thundering herds of tourists that descend upon the hotel throughout the day. The exterior lots are jam packed with tour busses and non-guests had free reign to every niche and cranny of the property.

One consequence of this is there are numerous dining options at the hotel. The deli is a convenient place for breakfast and offers some excellent selections for you to assemble a picnic lunch for that day’s outdoor activities. One evening we ate dinner in the Fairview Dining Room which the hotel touts as a four-diamond venue. Not in my book. The meal was expensive, the food pedestrian and the service mundane; however, we did have the good fortune of identifying an excellent Pinot Noir from the Okanagan Valley. The Post House Hotel dining room is an outstanding venue for dinner. It offers excellent cuisine and an extensive wine list. It is only a few minutes away from the Fairmont.

The exterior landscaping is resplendent with flowers everywhere. There is a path along one side of Lake Louise that is a must-do.

Service throughout the hotel was inconsistent. We experienced a particularly annoying practice. At mid afternoon of our first day at the hotel, we decided to have coffee and went to the Lakeview Lounge. The lounge’s large picture windows overlook the lake, distant mountains and glacier. We were advised by the attendant at the desk that we were not allowed in the lounge unless we purchased alcoholic beverages. I would estimate 80% – 90% of the tables were vacant. I don’t think this measure’s up to the Fairmont’s pledge to render consistent and exemplary service. So to you fellow afternoon teetotalers out there, keep your second class citizenship in mind when considering your afternoon respite. This experience is an excellent demonstration of why I characterize Chateau Lake Louise as a tourist destination as opposed to a fine hotel. Exploit the tour bus groups and to hell with the guests!!! One word befits the practice … petty!!!

Given its remarkable location, spending one night at this hotel is something most veteran travelers probably should put on their “to do” list; however, to spend a second night is a complete waste of money if your interest and expectation is for a stay at five star venue. The only five stars here are the ones gracing the Alberta sky.

We only were able to squeeze in the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for one night, but so glad we did.

We paid to stay in a Deluxe Lakeview Room while we were there for the night, as what would be the point of staying if you're looking at the hill?

Our room was luxurious and roomy. Our bathroom was huge and we were lucky enough to be on the corner facing the lake so we had 2 huge windows. Room 585 - if you can ask for a room ending in 85 you won't go wrong! Offering a little sitting area, another big comfy chair, huge King Sized Bed and giant flat screen TV it was like we were in heaven. The windows framed the lake as if they were picture frames - it was stunning.

In the afternoon we ate at the Glacier Saloon for lunch - very nice meal with a view of the lake. Laid back and comfortable. That evening we booked a late seating for the Fairview Dining Room and it was nothing short of fabulous. The staff's attention to detail was great, the meals amazing. Yes, you definitely will pay to eat a 4 diamond restaurant but if you want a meal that will stick in your mind for at least the next year - that stop and enjoy it it's only money afterall!

The next morning we headed to the Poppy Braissere for a quick breakfast. I think we had the misfortune of having a new server that was timid and unsure of himself but otherwise the food was good and the rest of the staff excellent.

All round - pay for a view of the lake and you can't go wrong at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise!

Booked a standard room overlooking the lake. It was quite small but comfortable and very clean. Nice bathroom. We stayed for one night only - if you're planning to do the same - bite the bullet and stay here and make sure you have a lake view - there's no point in staying here and not having a lake view. We asked for and a got a room on the top floor - even better view!

We ate in the Stube - not suprisingly it wasn't cheap - but the food was excellent and well worth every penny.

Loads of trails and places nearby to visit. Fantastic!!!

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is one of the most relaxing hotel I have stayed. The hotel and rooms are very clean and well maintained. The views of Lake Louise from the room or the lobbies are amazing. The hotel staff is very attentive and friendly at all times. We received a wonderful anniversary gift upon arrival and all the staff we encountered knew it was our anniversary. The ambient music playing is beautiful and relaxing – I bought the CD at the end of our stay.

The location is amazing – if you hike around the lake or just sit and have a drink enjoying the view. It is a short drive to south Banff, north to the glaciers and east to the Rocky Mountains – great home base for daytrips.

My boyfriend and I went to Lake Louise, Banff, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore last year this week. Out of all of the places that we went to The Fairmont was my best memory. It is just simply breathtaking. There was a fresh layer of snow on the mountains which made the views even that much more. The staff at the Fairmont were all very kind and helpful. The woman playing the Harp was amazing. Our room was small but really how much time do you spend in the room when you have scenery like that? The bed was so comfortable I could have slept forever. It was pricey but so worth the money. Our hike around the lake was nice and relaxing and all of the visitors we ran into were all very kind. I would recommend staying there at least one night. You will never forget it! Love, Loved, Loved it!!!
