“Gorgeous view of Lake Louise”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

You can't beat the views from the Chateau so splurge for a lake view room. The convenience if being on the lake adjacent to hiking and canoeing was nice. I was surprised by the number of tour groups staying at the hotel. As a result the lobby can be quite crowded as well as the area near the lake. In general the staff was very professional although overwhelmed when the tour buses arrived.

This is a superb hotel set in a truly scenic part of the Canadian Rockies only two hours from Calgary. The grounds are beautifully kept and the rooms overlooking the lake provide a vista that is fantastic to wake up to. The air is fresh and there is a nice trail which runs beside the lake and will take you to a waterfall at the far end. The trail makes a nice and not too strenuous bit of exercise before dinner; about 2.3 km.

We found the staff to be very friendly, courteous and efficient, often addressing us by name when we dined in the Fairview Dining Room. The Poppy Brasserie is a fine place for breakfast and also features great views onto the lake.

We are particular about our accommodations, and we found our room to be very clean and the bed had excellent pillows and was very comfortable.

This is a full service hotel with nice shops offering both expensive and more moderate local artisan fare in both galleries and gift shops.

For a special occasion, you will not be disappointed. We went for our 35th anniversary and it was an exceptional and wonderful experience not to be forgotten.

Room Tip: If you can, take a room with a view of the lake.

After a rail trip through the Rockies from Vancouver to Jasper, we organised a few days by coach through to Calgary.

Part of the package was two nights at the Fairmont, Lake Louise in a lakeview room. The best package we ever signed up for. Our lakeview room was right in the middle of the wing facing the lake and glacier, with the postcard view. Whilst Fairmont rooms are not massive, they are well appointed and comfortable - certainly 4 star.

Within the hotel are a number of top class restaurants, bars and cafes. Service is excellent and not excessively pricey. Also given that so many students from around the world spend their summer vacations working there, you will always find someone interesting to chat to; even someone from home.

The Fairmont has beautiful terraced gardens right down to the lake and plenty of walking tracks.

But all in all, the best way to get value for money at the Chateau Lake Louise is to have it as part of a package.

The attached photo is not commercial - it's mine taken from my room first thing in the morning. What a way to wake up.

Room Tip: Book a lakeview room a few floors up - fantastic views.

We only stayed one night on our way to Kelowna so we didn't get to enjoy the area but we have been many times although our grand kids have not and they enjoyed the lake, views and grounds. We initially booked just a regular room and we were given a room with a sitting area so that was nice as I couldn't imagine how tight for space the regular room would have been.

The room itself was ok, clean, coffee maker, soaps, hair products, the usual basics. View of the parking lot with mountains in the distance. This room was just over 350.00 a night so a lake view room would be insanely expensive just for the view. I would have to say that the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in and loved the pillows and duvet. The bathroom was just to small but did the job. Dinner at the Poppy Brasserie was expensive for the quality of food received but the dessert was a hit with the kids and the service was good. Customer services booked our dinner reservation and they were really friendly and helpful. Check out was efficient and parking pick up was speedy. Everyone should experience this area as it is truly beautiful and if you have money to burn then this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: This hotel is all about the view so in my opinion it's no use staying here if you don't get...

Chateau Lake Louise isn't perfect, but it offers so much that the shortcomings are rather irrelevant, it has perhaps the best view of any hotel on the world, Lake Louise is unfathomably beautiful and pictures cannot truly capture its rapturous looks. The water itself is dyed an exotic green-blue color by the dissolved rock flour (tiny rock particles) brought in from its glacial source, the Victoria glacier, a majestic pillow of ice on the mountain directly opposite of the hotel, it sticks around for the summers and it easily seen from any point on the lake.

Skiing and mountain climbing are the big draws to the region, and in both categories it doesn't fail. Ample hiking routes are available internally just outside the hotel, to six-glacier field of the higher-up lake Agnes, and world class skiing opportunities dot the surrounding valley.

Food is excellent here, and there are 5 restaurants in the hotel to suit every fancy, from a rustic bar for sports and beer freaks, a Swiss alpine restaurant called the Walliser Stube (I personally reccomend this one) that has extraordinary fondues, a casual bistro (Poppies) to escape from the oppressive fanciness the chateau often presents, to an extremely up-scale dining experience in the Fairview dining room. There is also an Italian restaurant at Lago's and the main lobby dining area serves a nice array of Tappas food.

The rooms are small, and some people would think they may need a revamp. The bathrooms are very compact but have good water pressure and temperature, a must for being this high up. The biggest problem is that the hotel lacks a central heating and cooling system! Desite this the rooms are well insulated and have openable windows and ceiling fans to keep the temperature stable. The other big downside is that the hotel costs a large amount for what you get, small rooms with no central AC or heat, but the location, food, and view are easily worth it. I would recommend the hotel to anyone staying ion the Canadian Rockies, it is a must-visit.

Room Tip: Lake view windows are paramount. Ones facing the other way have a decent view of the surrounding mou...

The location cannot be beat. The linens and bathroom were spotless. Right on the lake with access to all the trails. Staff were fantastic. The hotel itself leaves a bit to be desired. There is no airconditioning. The rooms are small and dated. Carpets were dingy. The pool is very small. Our "view" was of the parking lot.Other reviewers are right, it is a once in a lifetime experience. Our opinion is that for the price we will make another choice when we visit the area again.

Room Tip: Go in the off season and try to get a deal on one of the hotel sites. Do not pay full price.

I'm so pleased you enjoyed the view, but disappointed you did not feel you received what you paid for. I am pleased to let you know that we have just finished the renovation of 215 guest rooms with plans to renovate the remainder in early 2014 and 2015. We also have plans to conduct some small renovations on the pool area. Please let me know if you do return to the area, as I would be pleased to assist with your travel plans.

So much to do. This is one place you have to go see in person the view is stunning and we could not get enough of it. We had two adults and two kids. The room we had was great with a great view of lake louise. We stayed for a week. We rented a car and went to banff and did stuff in calgary. We did so much my kids love all the hikes we did. You have to put this on your to do list!!!!
