This must be one of the most beautiful places in the world. Ask for a lake view room and pay the extra: it is worth it to wake everyday staring down the majesty of Lake Louise. The hotel is large but wonderfully run, full of different types of bars and restaurants, and all sorts of different shops to browse in. Some great trips locally, but we tended not to go far and to walk to the end of the lake and beyond each day. Absolutely wonderful experience!

We stayed 4 nights in a junior suite with lake views. There is not much point staying at the Chateau unless you have a lake view. Our room was nicely appointed and spacious. Although, we needed maintenance to fix a gap between the window and frame to prevent the arctic breeze we experienced for a night. The heating in the room was noisy and we had to weigh up lack of sleep with a cold room. At this time of year, especially mid-week the Chateau is very quiet, therefore the breakfast buffet is only on weekends and we avoided the a la carte and costly breakfast in Poppy's for more reasonable options at the cafe. Staff, especially the concierge and ski / luggage guys were very, very helpful.
Accessing the Lake Louise ski field is so easy and the hotel shuttle was a fantastic service. We really enjoyed our stay at the Chateau.

Reserving a Lakeview room is something I strongly recommend to all the guests who come here. While the view is spectacular no matter what, there's something special about waking up to it. I'm thrilled you enjoyed your stay and that the service you received was above reproach. We look forward to seeing you again!

We joined the Presidents Club online and booked a mountain view room on the 7th, gold floor. We took the option to pay an additional fee if a lake view room became available, which was cheaper than securing a lake view room at the time of booking. We were upgraded - thankfully, but you probably couldn't rely on this when the hotel is busy.

Our room was fabulous both in terms of the furnishings and the view. We came to the conclusion that unless you have a lake view, you might as well stay in a cheaper hotel elsewhere in Lake Louise. This hotel is all about the view and in our opinion there is little point in staying here and paying the very high price for accommodation, if you don't have a great view.

The Gold Floor service is definitely worth having - a very personal concierge service, together with great hors d'oeuvres in the early evening, 'honour' bar, good 'hot and cold' breakfast, tea/coffee and snacks throughout the day and free internet access courtesy of the free President Club membership.

We only stayed one night - this place is very expensive, but we are very glad that we did.

Room Tip: Choose a Lake view room on the gold floor

We stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for five nights through New Year's Day 2013 enjoying a lake view suite and a deluxe room to accommodate four adults. The hotel is beautiful, well-maintained, very warm and clean. The staff is polite and very accommodating. The shops and variety of fine restaurants provide almost everything that a traveler can want. It's like being on a cruise ship in the mountains, and the rooms, dining and shops are all expensive in season. There is a wide range of winter activities available, from skiing and skating to snowshoeing and sleigh riding. The spectacular surroundings of the lake and mountains added to our enjoyment of the holiday season.

Room Tip: Lakefront rooms are the best. Rooms in the new wing have very good views and are larger than rooms...

I decided a visit and stay at Lake Louise was appropriate having driven past this location on two ocassions. I made my booking from the Fairmont Macdonald Edmonton with little fuss, and chose the President Club option, straight to level 7 private check in and breakfast, but at a cost and on reflection not worth it in my opinion, because the decor and room is dated, although you get free canapés and an honor bar. On the positive however the staff are efficient and friendly and you get an escort to your room. An exploration of the hotel and environs revealed many options and a walk to the Lake, about 175 metres away. This hotel is quite simply located in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Now and unfortunately there was some irritating dimensions to the visit. On returning from our walk about 8 pm we sought the refuge of the outdoor dining area in the restaurant. It was closed apparently due to the mosqitous, which I did not see and unfortunately no more orders could be taken for indoor dining. The only other option was the Glacier Saloon, which is almost subterranean, and had a Coyote Ugly feel about it, and the only seats were at the bar, and of course my 4 year old was unable to sit in this location. We retreated to the President Lounge, and I expressed my displeasure at the options, the closure of the outdoor area, which overlooks the Lake, there was a sympathetic response, and which was followed up with a reservation in the Glacier Lounge, which we did not take up. I was astonished that the outdoor dining area on the mezzanine was closed at 9 pm, the view and ambience is just unable to be described. If you don't believe me have a look at a photo of the Lake. In terms of location however it cannot be beaten. The next morning we participated in a canoe experience from one end of the Lake to the other this was a wonderful experience with the Lake a mirror at this time of the day and only about $90.00 for about 2 hours. It was and is remains a wonderful memory which was sadly marred by an email from the Presidents Club informing me that a pair of binoculars was missing from our room after checkout AND they had debited the amount of replacement against my credit card. I was of course suitably outraged by this, and challenged this because to be accused of being fussy is quite separate from being accused of theft. Fairmont did apologise and did refund the money, but at a loss to me due to transaction fees, so be aware of this, ask them to check the contents of the room, because based on some type of audit by housekeeping I was made liable for the loss and / error by the previous occupant. Having alerted you to this though I would return, if only because of the location, but will try and get a meal before 9 pm.

Thank you so much for posting your review and providing such valuable feedback. I am pleased that you enjoyed the service offered by our Fairmont Gold team, though extremely disappointed to hear of the mix-up with the binoculars. I have shared your comments with our Fairmont Gold Manager to ensure we update our procedures for this type of situation, as it is certainly not the memory with which we want to leave our guests.
I have also spoken with our Director of Food & Beverage concerning the early closure of the patio, as well as the availability in our other outlets. While we do strongly recommend advance reservations in the busy summer months, we do our best to ensure all our guests are accommodated.
I hope we get the chance to see you again; please contact me at the hotel should your travels bring you back to our Diamond in the Wilderness.

Warm Regards,
Lisa Riches

This must be located in one of the prettiest places on earth. Our room overlooked the frozen lake and snow covered mountains. Everything was of the highest quality and service exceptional. We ate at the Glacier Saloon, Wurlitzer Stube and the Fairmont Room. While completely different styles, in each case the dinner and service was excellent. The experience truely lived up to what we have come to expect from Fairmont Hotels.

Room Tip: Room 619 is exceptional, very spacious bedrrom, large bathroom and separate sitting area.

I have been to the Chateau several times as a preteen and young adult with my sister and parents but this was the first time going with my own husband and 2 children. The drive up is beautiful and really striking in the deep snow. I am sure it has impact on travellers from warm climates. The Chateau is lovely as can be expected from a Fairmont. The location could not be more beautiful as the lake is gorgeous in both winter and summer. We took advantage of the winter activities and did some ice skating (appreciating the nice big fire on the side of the rink to warm up) and tobogganing. We also took a horse drawn sleigh ride which was worth while although I wish I was wearing warmer footwear. Even leather boots did not keep the toes warm. DRESS WARM! At the end of the trail is a beautiful frozen waterfall that climbers often scale.
All the dining areas were exceptional. Did a 3 course dinner and wine pairing in the Dining room which was awesome. Did appies at the german fondue place which was excellent. Did pub fare at Grizzlies which was very good and kid friendly in the afternoon (2 thumbs up). Also did lunch in the lakeside lounge which is fantastic in both service and cocktails.
Housekeeping was non-intrusive and thorough.
Only problem was at check which was a bit of a nightmare with 2 tired car sick kids since our room was not ready on time and then we were given the wrong room entirely with someone elses things in the foyer. Management promptly made up for the inconvenience with a bottle of Champagne and treats for the kids.. and free valet. All forgiven.
Overall this is a top notch place, excellent for families and romantic escapes.

Room Tip: Lakeview as high up as possible.
