“Very good hotel, but stay in Banff”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Firstly, let me just clarify. I honestly think the view of Lake Louise is one of the most, if not the most stunning vistas I have ever seen. It's worth (in my case) the flight to Canada alone. However, the town that has built up around this natural wonder is an incredibly efficient well oiled machine designed to part you with your cash. Everything here, from hotels to restaurants is four times the price of everywhere else.

This hotel is very good, although not worth the price. Service is very good and the fitness centre and indoor pool are superb. The fireplace in the room is lovely and the bathroom is excellent. As is the view of the mountains from the room.

In terms of negatives (other than the price, which is not particular to this hotel, it's the town generally) are that it's right by the railway line which is incredibly noisy and wifi in the rooms is terrible, to the point of useless. You would have thought at these prices they would invest in a decent wifi network.

In conclusion, lovely hotel, but you're better off staying in Banff and day tripping up to Lake Louise.

The Post Hotel is simply one of the finest facilities at which you will ever stay. The rooms are beautiful, the ambience of the public areas is unequalled, the food superb, and the service impeccable. This was our second visit to the Post Hotel and we have greatly enjoyed both stays. This time, we reserved the O Suite, which we later found out was the Honeymoon Suite. What an increbile room! It has a beautiful fireplace in the middle of the room, with a seperate sleeping area to the left and the bathroom, jacuzzi, and shower to the right. All of this, with a large balcony that streches across all three areas and looks out on the mountains. When we were there, there were still flowers in bloom and the balcony was covered in beautiful flower boxes. It is impossible to describe how beautiful this room is. However, if you are considering the Post Hotel, please reserve this room. You will not be disappointed. The only drawback is that train tracks are in somewhat close proximity to the hotel and you can hear it when the train comes through. There are rooms on the back side (they call it the preferred side) that are quieter. If you are visiting Lake Louise, this is a perfect place to stay and we would highly recommend it. Be sure to eat in their dining room also as the food is fantastic!

Room Tip: For quieter rooms, reserve in the back (preferred side). However, for a truly exceptional room, res...

The Post Hotel is what others hope to be.
Outstanding service, food, accomodations, employees, and of course the owners...
Simply the best all the way around.
The owners are always in attendance, their eye for detail and quality are unmatched.
The Post is reminiscent of the family owned hotels and resorts in the Alps.
Do try one of their wine dinner weekends, perhaps the best wine event I have ever
had the pleasure of attending.

Room Tip: Although there is a "non preferred" side, whichever room category you choose, and i'm...

The opposite rooms facing the backyards and the greek, rooms facing the hotel parking lot will not sleep quiet .A busy railway hides behind the parking lot.

Truly a highlight of our trip. The staff was outstanding and helpful. Rooms are on the small side, but we enjoyed our deck on the preferred side. The restaurant was expensive, but well worth the splurge (we had to go twice!) The pub was also enjoyable for a light dinner. Hope to return!

Room Tip: stay on the preferred, quiet side. Allow time to partake of afternoon tea. Must visit the restaura...

Rustic outside...but inside it will please you. If you like mountain scenery, fresh air, sound of water running, and a more intimate stay, this is the place. As my title suggests, the hotel is in a picturesque setting...sitting on the deck of our room with a glass of wine, taking in a picturesque view of mountain ski runs from a distance, listening to a running river, etc. The 'preferred' side offers sound from the running Pipestone River and mountain views at sunrise. The other side offers more scenic views of mountains (and parking lot), but more noise from passing trains and afternoon (sunny) heat (even though awnings might help). Did I mention that there is no air conditioning (but they offer fans upon request)?

We have been here 9 times since 1991, and it is the only place we will stay in Lake Louise (in my humble opinion). We have always chosen the 'preferred' side and a 'B' room. It offers a king bed, fire place, seating area, and decent size bathroom. [Even though they did not 'recognize us' from previous visits - since we booked through a travel agent - this year, we were offered an upgrade to a suite! It might have been due to the efforts of the travel agen?] Upon each visit, they have included a bottle of wine and 2 glasses, along with a basket of fruit!

The staff (international - mostly Swiss/German) was exemplary/friendly (went above and beyond)...the food wonderful...and the accommodations very relaxing. They provide everything top notch...everything one might expect from Relaix & Chateaux. The only negative comments: (1) our room did not have bathrobe and slippers, and (2) coffee maker in suite was not cleaned one day. A call to front desk quickly resolved these minor issues. (They do serve coffee/tea on each floor from 7am-11am, but we are early risers!)

When faced with a medical situation, we visited the front desk...and before we were able to return to our accompanying guest's suite, the call was transfered from the doctor to their room. Remarkable!

Because we chose not to dress 'casual elegance', we ate many meals in the Outpost Pub - casual, relaxed, decent food, access to Hotel's famous wine celar and friendly/attentive service.

Room Tip: We prefer the 'B' preferred side, but will probably choose the 'F" suite preferred...

The Post Hotel provides a small, elegant, and interesting alternative to the massive Fairmont Château. The room was very large, and extremely functionally laid out. Fireplace was fantastic, and was restocked and ready to light each day. The spa and pool were beautiful. The grounds were simple, but very well-maintained. There are beautiful bars and libraries with fireplaces thatmake for very comfortable settings after a day of adventure in the mountains. The only area for improvement is they can use a concierge that provides more guidance to area activities. We visited the Fairmont for dinner, and we were very glad we chose the Post Hotel as our place to stay.
