“Great location and very comfortable room, shame about the rest.”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

This Hotel has a perfect location for Lake Louise and Maronie, the reception staff were very welcoming and our room was very comfortable. The interior of the Hotel was very strange with dark corridors linking public areas and rooms with lino type floors rather than carpet. Whilst we had a very pleasant dinner (subject of a separate review) the breakfast experience was awful. The staff looked as if they had been on the tiles the previous night and had little or no interest in us. My wife had the breakfast buffet which was not cheap and was very poor as it had not been refreshed for a time. There was no breakfast tea so we said we would leave it for a separate lounge which provided free tea for guests. We went there only to find that there was only one English Breakfast tea bag left. I ordered a cooked breakfast which took forever to come. I had to use the loo in the public area and it was foul and clearly had not been checked for a long time!!
I feel that if the Management focussed a bit more on the "little detail's" they would have many more happy customers. It would not take much to transfer this ideally located Hotel from average to excellent!!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the building are much quitter and have a view into wood rather than the main ro...

Deer Lodge looks quaint and pretty from the outside but the photos of the hotel on their webpage are deceiving as it is tired, tatty and badly in need of a good clean with fluff balls on the bedroom floor and dirty surfaces in the bedroom and the dining room. It is in need of refurbishment in the older rooms, especially the "tower rooms". These would benefit with a conversion from 4 rooms into 2 rooms as they are extremely inadequate now as "double" rooms. We were in one on the roadside of the tower which was very small with nowhere for luggage and we were on a three week touring holiday with two suitcases and two trolley bags. The bathroom was also tiny with nowhere for toilet bags. The safety box did not work and the staff seemed to know this but did not try to resolve it, although it seemed to us that it just needed a battery change. As we were staying there for three nights we asked for a change of room and although one of the staff on the desk tried to help the other receptionist was unwilling to accommodate. She appeared to keep her sullen expression every time we saw her on duty. We got our tour company to intervene for the last night of our stay and were then moved to a room in the "new wing" which was located down a dark corridor. The room there, although bigger was still no cleaner and the shower handle was falling out of the wall and difficult to turn. I agree with other reports that the proximity of Lake Louise to this hotel is perfect but that is probably what keeps it in business. This was the area we planned our "chill" break in our trip but on reflection we should have chosen to travel on to Banff as we were left very disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new wing are bigger and brighter with a balcony.

1. Little rooms, without : TV, coffee, enough place to put clothes or luggages, air condition or fan, breakfast.
2. Very noisy without option to rest in all the rooms with the window to the internal garden (noise of the tourists' trolleys).
3. Noise from the water's heating system each time that someone open the hot water.
4. Little beds.
5. Wi-Fi poor.
6. Very expensive restaurant.
7. The only positive point is the location, 5 min. to the Lake.

Arrived at hotel after 9hr coach ride from Jasper due to forest fire. The staff could not have been more helpful, even opened the bar up for us. Room was comfortable though strange without both T.V. and Radio, but oh so peaceful. Five minutes walk away from Lake Louise which is absolutely spectacular. Get up early to get the great camera shots before the canoeists get on the lake.

charming place from the outside. the rooms are simple but clean, nothing special. wifi only works in the common areas which apparently reception has not been made aware of. the ladies at the front couldn't care less: told us there was no reservation was required for the restaurant and we ended up waiting for an hour until we got a table. the food is great but terribly overpriced

Checked in 21:20. No other option for meal so had to rush as restaurant closing for service at 22:00, only option was to sit in the expensive dining area as bar area already closed. For this reason completed checkin after meal, staff were very accommodating in this instance. Checked in: No lift or assistance with suitcases, on top floor rm 310. Room: No fridge, no coffee making facilities, no TV (minor issue), no racks for luggage (minor issue). Room very small and dated. Window had to be kept open all night as room was stuffy BUT the noise from the river rushing by was very loud. Seemed there were electrical issues as light switch near door did not seem to turn anything on, had to turn switch on actual bedside light. Bed very comfortable however on leaving pulled covers back and was horrified to see white marks on the old brown worn doona. I took a phot of this and wrote a message to cleaning staff about this! No fridge: Meant no where for food items we we carrying so had to throw out. No where for my medication to be kept, had to take to reception so they could put in kitchen fridge (I could not access it. The staff comment was "I hope you don't need it in the middle of the night, do you?" Coffee/Tea: Free on ground floor 07:00 -11:00. Constant issues by many quests of having to wait for everything to be restocked as often ran out of cups, hot water, milk/cream and sugar. For a 24 hour service this was not good, there were many complaints from people while waiting. Hikers up at 04:00 to walk to tea rooms could not even get a cuppa! Water: To left of reception desk, this was often empty or no cups. Restaurant: Two evening meals were spectacular, the food was wonderful. Well presented and very tasty. Waitress was delightful, helpful and friendly and gave advice for local area (was an Australian girl). Hotel exterior and main lounge areas are very old world and charming. Loved the fire place and sitting areas. Did not use many facilities. Booked hotel as close walking distance to Lake Louise. Loved the lake area and hiking, this is a must go and see area. Checkout: Australian credit card first charged in AUD then changed to CAD. Said if AUD no other charges. C/C bill ended up with AUD $18.00 of extra charges that were not expected. Would not stay again in hotel but area is spectacular.

Room Tip: If you have trouble sleeping don't get a room on the road side as you hear the river rushing all...

I stayed in this 'hotel' as part of a walking tour in June for 2 nights. It was pretty rubbish and seems to rely on the fact that it is on the doorstep of Lake Louise. The rooms are tiny and have no amenities that even budget hotels have in this day and age - no TV, no coffee machine/kettle, no hairdryer. The whole place is in desperate need of refurbishment. Paintwork missing from the walls and windowsills, a window that felt like it would break as soon as i opened or closed it, paintwork missing from the bottom of the bathtub. If it had not been pre-booked for me, and had i not been part of an organised tour group, i would have either changed hotels or asked for my money back!

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all!
