Absolutely beautiful and the walk along the edge of the lake is well worth it, with a little waterfall at the end. The colour of this lake is nothing like I have ever seen before. A must see in the Canadian Rockies.

As per my friend's idea/plan we visited lake Moraine for sunrise at around 6:15 am. There is a small 5 minute hike to the top of the "Rock pile", the photographic site of Lake Moraine. Just words won't give justice to the spectacular view of the lake from there. It's a perfect reflection lake. The reflection of the huge glacier-fed mountains on the blue-green lake bestow us with the good photographic opportunity. Also, you can enjoy the canoe ride on the lake later in the day.

Bring camera, walking shoes and wear properly as its quite cold in the morning. Do try to come minutes before sunrise to grab a good picture spot. I would strongly recommend for a sunrise at the lake. You might not want to miss the opportunity of watching the first sunlight falling upon the Rocky mountains peaks and their reflection on the lake- just incredible!!!

Lake moraine is an absolute jewel. We were lucky enough to have the most perfect weather so the lake colours were outstanding. There is an easy walk around one side of the lake to a pretty water cascade which runs down from the glaciers. Surrounded by 10 peaks the scenery is stunning. We visited on 8 September 2013 and if you are staying in the cabins then an early stroll before the crowds arrive is well worth it or take a canoe out on to the lake to see the mountains from a different perspective. Compared to Lake Louise it is quieter and we much preferred it.
There are numerous trails of different lengths and effort. As guests of the lodge we took a guided trail to larch valley which although climbs steeply is well worth the view from the top. The climb is 1650 ft up from the lakeside so take poles if you want to make it easier. Hannah did a good job of explaining the life cycles and purposes of the plants, trees and animals.
The trail to consolation lake is easy and flat through shady tree avenues with a little clambering over boulders at the start and end. At the first set of boulders go left and then you are on the lovely pathway. There are bear warnings and you need to be in a group of four, we just waited at the start and soon were joined by two lovely ladies from Quebec.

We took the short, and a bit steep, hike to the top of the "Rock Pile". You MUST view the lake from there. The color is indescribable! You should really early as there is limited parking. A must see!
