Nice walking at this lake and much quieter than Lake Louise well worth a visit a short drive from Lake Louise. I preferred it.

Everyone knows about Lake Louise, but not many know about Moraine Lake. It is featured on the back of the Canadian twenty dollar bill for a very good reason. On one side of the lake is a lush forest with a trail to walk alongside. The other side of the lake are mountains. We found ourselves walking to the end of the trail where we found crisp cold water flowing from the mountain. We noticed boater, canoers and some bold young polar bears splash in the water in their bathing suites. Moraine Lake is a little difficult to reach through a winding road in the forest, but worth the time. What a great place to take photos and enjoy the quiet wilderness.

A friend of mine who grew up in Alberta had told me about the Valley of 10 Peaks, so this was the inspiration for my weeklong trip to Banff NP. I was lucky to have a week of gorgeous sunny days and the views here were stunning. A lot of people make the short walk up to the viewpoint, but they don't linger. I was able to have the place to myself for a few minutes by waiting out the tour groups. Moraine Lake is not to be missed.

Definitely worth making the drive but parking is very difficult. A lot less parking than Lake Louise but less visitors.

We canoed on Moraine Lake and is was definately a major highlight of the trip. It was included in our hotel (Cathedral Mountain Lodge) so we did not have to pay the $50. (Phew) Our pictures are breathtaking. They give you an hour and it is sufficient. We even had a little picnic on the other side. The lake did not feel crowded at all, although there were others canoeing. Great memorable experience!
