It is worth the walk up the stone stairs up to the rockpile for a beautiful view of the lake from above. Its a short hike so you can do it!!!

It's a longer drive to get to this glacial lake, but it is well worth it to see the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Definitely hike the short trail up to the top of the moraine via the "Rockpile Trail" to see the "Twenty Dollar View" - the view from the top of the moraine was on the back of the Canadian $20 bill from 1969-1979. My husband and I didn't know there was a designated trail and mistakenly did some impromptu rock climbing, 80 ft up the other side. Oops!

We took an early June trip up to Banff. Went to Moraine Lake and the lake was still 75% frozen. Lake level was also very low due the fact that the snow melt had not filled it yet. We have looked at pictures of this location for years and unfortunalely I felt we were probably a week or two too early in the season. It is still a majestice sight but wish we had seen it at its full potential.

A must see for anyone in the area!

The lake was still totally frozen when we visited at the end of May, but offered stunning scenery. We walked around the edge, and enjoyed the view and surrounding mountains.

One idiot chanced his arm walking out onto the ice - a dangerous trick at this time as the ice on Lake Louise was already melting. Would have made a good action shot!

Another gem in the Rockies, and easily accessed on the way back from Banff from Lake Louise.

Lake Moraine is another picturesque glacier fed lake. Take a canoe out and be sure to take a little hike up to the view point. It's worth it.
