At time of vist it was very busy I would suggest you go early or late to avoid the coaches but it is truly outstanding

An easy drive, good roads. A great view of the mountains and for those who haven't touched snow, there was lots of it. Great little shop to purchase clothing and accessorites. Also a restaurant, altho I didn't try it.

The lake is a sight to behold. Very unique colour, and quite beautiful on a sunny day. But the parking lot was jammed with busses and cars. People everywhere. Very, very crowded. Not much else to look at, so it's really just a pretty drive and 10 minute stop to see the sights.

Our family finally saw Moraine Lake for the first time this past weekend - the road was opened last Thursday and we drove up only two days later. The ascent itself was breath-taking with huge snow boulders on either side of the road and amazing views (with scary cliff drop offs as well), you really felt like you were climbing away into another world all together. Upon arrival, we had to quickly throw toques and mitts on as it is still winter at Moraine Lake on opening weekend (opened this year on the last weekend of May), the lake is still fully frozen and there are snow piles as high as my waist everywhere - it didn't matter though, it was GORGEOUS. I found the setting to be completely magical and unlike anywhere else in the Rockies. The air felt so fresh and the atmosphere is perfectly serene. We are already planning our return for September and I am looking forward to seeing Moraine Lake once its thawed out and minus all the snow. It was however still very worth the drive up , frozen and all.
