Everyone visits Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies, and it is beautiful, but for color as well as setting, Peyto Lake is spectacular.

This lake is well worth the hike. It is a fairly steep trek to the lookout but the lake is absolutely amazing. You don’t see color like this in many lakes. Just make sure you can do this on a sunny day as that helps a lot in the lake color. We were glad we didn’t skip this stop on the way to Jasper.

A short walk from the car park, always good to stretch the legs and then just a stunning view of the lake. It’s so turquoise it almost looks unnatural but really beautiful. The car park was closed the day we were there so a longer walk from the main road and probably less people which was a blessing as the viewing deck is not huge. We drove Lake Louise to Jasper, leaving early in the morning and you couldn’t see a thing as cloudy and misty but coming back the next day a fab sunny day and amazing views! A must see.

Peyto Lake, located near Icefields Parkway, offer unparalleled view of lake and surrounding mountains. It is a short walk or hike from the parking lot off the highway. Parking is tight with so many visitors all the time. Bathroom facilities are basic and often have a wait time. A view of Peyto Lake with jagged mountains and meandering azure blue lake hints a glimpse of heaven! Strongly recommended while driving the Icefields Parkway.
