We live in Calgary and have a park pass so we are up all the time eating and staying that the Banff Springs. We very often have a drink in the rundle lounge before dinner and every single time we are there, the service is horendous. No one helps you find a table, if you do get a table, they are very often not cleared and dirty. It takes another 5-10 minutes to get a menu, another 10-15 minutes for someone to come back and take our drink, another 15-20 mintues to get our drinks and then more than ample time to recieve our bill. We would drink more but it takes them so long we usually run out of time. One time we ordered food and it was aweful. The food at the Bow Valley Grill is much better, eat there if you have a choice.
Finally they replaced the old dirty chairs in this place but now they are too modern for the room and not that comfortable. I kind of liked the old chairs that looked like a king's throne. They were just dirty and old but the style was better.
I don't know why an expensive "world class" hotel has such bad service in the Rundle Lounge and I see I'm not the first to complain. Is it lack of staff? Whatever it is, management needs to take a hint and fix the problem. I gave it two stars for the view and zero stars for the food and service.
