Being in Banff downtown, we selected this restaurant for lunch-Being a Wednesday only Buffet was offered- Food was good but just one meat dish and not much choice , also the bread took quite a while to come, we noticed there was just one person , manning the bar, the cash and also serving! so the delays!
The price of almost $15.00 per person + tax would be fine if there were two meat or poultry dishes and not two vegetarian ones-Lots of room for improvement- But the man in charge was a very polite and nice guy! so folks do visit !

This restaurant was really busy and we had to wait quite a while to be served because they had a couple of tour groups come in for a buffet. However, the food was very tasty and the portions were large.

The food was flavorful, although not spicy enough to be authentic. It was a welcome change from the pubs and burger joints in Banff. The service, though, was very slow. We sat at our table for around 30 minutes after our meal, first waiting for a waiter to come by for us to flag down, then waiting for our bills (there were six at our table) to be brought.

We've been eating at Indian Restaurants (usually the Buffet) around the world for 30 years. It is one of our top 4 culinary choices for eating out. 6 months ago, we were in India for an entire month. So we have a good understanding of quality Indian food/ dining.

Masala is a poor restaurant, at least for the buffet. Please, consider passing on eating at this place during the lunch hour.

They had 3 'main' dishes and that was it-- dal, peas and cabbage, and chicken. Since they did not even bother to put out the names of the dishes, i won't oblige them and say what i know they were. There was exactly 1 and 1 only condiment. There was a lettuce and also mixed cucumber/ bell pepper choice for salad. Some sad dish of balled rice in rose water was it for 'dessert.' They did bring nan to our table, but they only offer plain nan and you only get one serving.

That makes this is the least variety we've ever seen at an Indian Lunch Buffet. For Indian cuisine, it was the plainest, least spiced food we'd ever had. I admit, the ingredients did seem fresh.

Then came the bill. The meal plus tax came to 16.00 per person. I've never, ever known of an Indian Buffet to be more than 10.00/ person.

Had dinner here with a friend on the recommendation of a local. We love Indian food so we couldn't wait to try it. The food was great. We started with vegetable samosas and they were the best I ever had. Our entrees included the butter chicken and chicken Vindaloo. Both were tasty and spiced just right. The naan was exceptional too - crispy not doughy. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and efficient. They had three big groups in the restaurant so they were busy but we were well taken care of. My only suggestion would be to put ice in the drinking water.
