Description: Our Story Begins in Ireland Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, St. James's Gate, established in 1996, was built and manufactured in Dublin, Ireland. The authenticity of the imported Irish woodwork and fantastic artifacts make St. James Gate one of the premier Irish Pubs in the world. The Gate has a warm friendly atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Rub shoulders with local residents and tourists from around the world. The bartenders are friendly and prepare the drinks with care and consideration and the staff proves just what a capable & fun group of servers is worth. It's everything an Irish Pub should be.

“Great service and comfortable surroundings!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

Needed a bit of a break after a day of short hikes and then shopping in Banff, and came across this sanctuary that served beverages and pub food, and a host that knew we wanted to watch CFL playoff football on the tube. Initially thinking we would just have a quick beverage and appie, we soon were very comfortable with the surroundings, prompt but not over-bearing service, and tasty food - oh, and the beverage. Dinner was soon in hand - fish and chips and Hunter Pie, both excellent and hitting the spot on a cool day. Exciting finish to the playoff game, then off to catch a romantic comedy movie at the theatre down the block.

“Unimpressed compared to all the reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Went based on reviews and comments from Friends. Walked in the front door, no clear hostess, no one there to meet us, and no sign saying to wait to be seated. In typical pub style we walked to an open table and sat. A rushed hostess walked over and asked us if it was just the 4 of us and she did not seem impressed. We moved tables after no one came for a bit and moved closer to the fireplace in the back. We were greated right away as we sat down. We ordered our beers and they were out of 2 of the options on tap. We tried to order Yorkies but with the sauce (dairy based) on the side but were told we could not modify that item. Instead we ordered the dry ribs which were very good. We asked for some water and when it came 3 out of the 4 had something floating in it. When we brought it to the attention of our server she didnt seem to care and only brought one new class. My wife and I ended up sharing water for the whole night. The service was slow (it was very busy) and the server would bring one drink at a time, would walk by and bring plates, then later on bring cutlery.

Food quality was good. Service was OK. I would like to excuse this to being a long weekend sunday but am unsure. At the end of the night the bills were screwed up with things being charged to other people at our table.

Overall wanted to be impressed. Food quality was good but just couldnt enjoy ourselves on vacation.

“Guinness Biscuits!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Yes, Guinness Biscuits. Biscuits, made with Guinness. One came with my Lamb Irish Stew, which was wonderful, but I could have eaten about 900 of those biscuits. My husband loved his Steak, Guinness and Mushroom Pie. I also had a tasty Smithwick's Ale. I was particularly impressed by the fact that the entire pub was built in Dublin, Ireland before being brought to Banff. It's lovely inside. I could have gone back a few more times during our visit but there were too many other places to try :)

“Lovely Irish pub!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

We discovered this lovely Irish pub when we were trying to find somewhere warm we can go for our cocktail hours. We glanced this Irish pub off the mainstreet and we were glad that we give it a try. The theme is authentic, the price of drink is reasonable and service is good. We did not have meals but we enjoy every minute of it!

“Tasty meal and good beer choice”

There is an extensive choice of beers here and we enjoyed a couple with our meal. The food was plentiful and tasty and the service was pleasant and efficient. Quite a busy place with a nice atmosphere.
