We arrived in Banff on September 21st about four in the afternoon...the cheapest hotel we could find was $129 and it was nothing special...the next most reasonable hotel was around $150 and it was also nothing special. In terms of the hostel, the price was under $100; the location was excellent. I was able to safely leave my bicycle attached to the car out front. The room heat was okay with very little outside noise (once the people in the courtyard quietened down). As far as the internet went, there were three computers with no waiting. When you are just checking your mail, internet speed is no big deal. The kitchen was great with everything you needed to make yourself a plain breakfast. The fellow behind the counter was very helpful. I have no hesitation in saying if you are spending the night in Banff and you want to have some extra money for a great meal in one of the local restaurants, then stay at this hostel.

Room Tip: Second floor...rear of hotel is quieter.

I stayed for only one night, but I was impressed with the room and the very helpful guy at reception. The hostel is in a good location for walking into downtown banff and where you can go for food. You get free breakfast and there are computers and internet available, as well as lockers in the rooms. However, there were a lots of strange noises during the night, sounded like a knocking in the wall and this meant everyone in my room had issues sleeping, so make sure you bring ear plugs!

I stayed here with my fiancé,its about a 20 minute walk into town, the staff were great! the kitchen was average, there breakfast was toast, peanut butter and jelly, if you had eggs and what no you'd be able to make pancakes from scratch, with only water and coffee as a drink option.
Our room had like a loft section. with 2 single beds, they were rather uncomfortable.
there was no light on the loft. and only 1 ceiling light for down stairs. while we were staying it was nice and cool weather. but our rooms were so hot and stuffy with small windows. none of which were in the loft.
there internet was HORRIBLE!id only recommend one night stays! Im sure you could find better accommodation in town, and for cheeper.

Newly Refurbished (some work was being done during daytime hours of our visit), we found the HI hostel by driving past it on the main road into Banff.

Prices for a private room were around $100 per night, but we booked into a 4 room co-ed for around $60 and had the place to ourselves anyway.
The room was smart and well designed with a very nice and reasonably sized on-suite. The hostel was quiet and the atmosphere mellow. The courtyard had a quirky layout with spiral staircases that I quite liked (thought it might not be to everyone's tastes).

During our visit the downstairs kitchen was out of order but they'd moved basic equipment up and into the reception. This was inconvenient, but offered a chance to meet some other guests during our breakfast. Just a teething problem for this hostel, and they warned us about it when booking, so we knew the deal.

You can walk into town relatively quickly so you wont need a designated driver when going out for a night.

Stayed in September, Travelled as Young Couple.

Room Tip: Our room on the top level was nice and quiet.
