The main street through Banff offers plenty of shopping and dining opportunities, woht a sprinkling of culture thrown in. Pleasant place to wander up and down.

Lovely high street, although the downside is that there are plenty of visitors/tourists who visit this well kept town.

We spent half of one day and half of the next in downtown Banff. Souvenir and jewelry shops galore but a few gems to be found like Hudson Bay Trading Co. Rode public bus Roam from Fairmont for $1 seniors. Good transportation and on time usually. Beautiful mountains at end of town.

Banff Avenue spans the town of Banff offering many hotel options just outside of the main business district and several blocks of shops & restaurants offering the visitor anything from burgers to near gourmet dining / from art to to souvenirs. Maybe the most important offering for a hiker or sightseer is the Banff Park visitors center located near the center of the Banff Ave business district. A very clean and well laid out area catering to the many visitors that enjoy the area year around.

A beautiful mountain town. I would move here if I could. Our tour guide said that the permanent population is relative small and controlled. About the only way you can move n is buying an existing property, you have family/relatives there. The seasonal population tho, varies greatly as temporary residents come in to work in the various hospitality industries.
It is a very tourist orientated town who's almost sole purpose is to cater to the visitors. This isn't uncommon around the world, eg. Queenstown, New Zealand.
Dining, accommodation and touristy shops everywhere along the main street area.
