I was attracted to Juniper by the modern decor featured on their website. The interior did not disappoint though the room we had was small and you needed to lug your luggage up the stairs.

What I didn't like was the bed, which was too soft for me and both me and my husband woke up with a backache for the 2 nights we stayed there.

The view was beautiful. The ala carte breakfast that we had for about $9 was good and hearty, drinks were also refilliable.

Recommended for those who drive esp if you can get it at a cheaper rate than the places in town.

I have never stayed at a hotel where it had so many good points and then so many bad...so I had to rate it average although some aspects were 1st class and then others awful...

Good points...location on Mt Norquay...nice drive up the mountain, great view of Banff townsite, great views from hotel of Vermillion lakes, amazing sunrise. The lobby was beautiful and the rooms decor was nice and modern. The restaurant for dinner was amazing. I cannot compliment the chef enough. There was so much attention to detail and everything was great. It was so wonderful we ate dinner there both nights.

Breakfast however was AWFUL...beyond awful. It was like a whole different restaurant. In fact we were given a breakfast voucher for our room issues which it appears is their way of shutting up all guests with issues since everyone else there had one as well as us. It pretty much consisted of fruit, bread (but no way to toast it!), bacon (that seemed to be the chef's favorite since there was a whole pan of it and he kept making it even though the other 2 trays were completely empty!) AND it didn't include OJ.

The room issues were equally awful. First of all I would like to say that the hotel is old and has been remodeled so it still has issues associated with being old...like small rooms REALLY small rooms, VERY small bathrooms (although all in slate...very beautiful), no elevator, no pool (they do have a jacuzzi though). The exterior does not appear to be renovated this includes the balcony which has rails you could fall through...don't lean! But I was willing to overlook the issues associated with the hotel being an old structure...all except one. There is apparently a ventilation issue associated with the pine needles on the roof. It caused a tribal drum like noise coming from the sink. Very loud. We complained the first night and were told no one could come up til morning so we suffered through the night. It was dreadful.

Then the next day we had to call twice to get someone to come up. When he did he basically told us that the issue could not be fixed until they cleaned out the system but told us that all the rooms didn't have the problem so maybe they could move us. They even showed us the room next to ours (apparently that is where the space from our room went since it was HUGE and spacious with a giant balcony overlooking Vermillion lakes...unfortunately that room was apparently booked as were ALL the rooms in the hotel so we were stuck in the small "drippy" room with the noise. I was so disappointed because I think that of all the hotels I booked for our trip this was the one I was most looking forward to. Big bummer. They did offer to take 5% off our room charge which didn't even cover the cost we paid to upgrade to the "room with the view. "
