Loved every inch. It is worth stopping at EVERY overlook and interpretive sight. We saw a bald eagle, wolf tracks, Castle Mountain, the Saw Range prescribed burn, Johnston Canyon, and finished up with a late lunch at the Fairmont on Lake Louise.

This is the old highway through the Rockies and I am so glad they left it open to the public. It is a nice quiet drive where you will most likely come across some wildlife of some sort. On top of that, there are about a dozen stops of interest along the way, that explain things about the rockies to you. As well there is Johnston Canyon, a wonderful little hike into a canyon where they actually put gantry's onto the side of the canyon and you walk along them above the river.
This is THE best way to travel from Lake Loise to Banff, it is much better than flying along the Trans Canada Highway and trying to take in all the beauty.

The Bow Valley Pky is a great alternative to Hwy 1 between Banff and Lake Louise. Great places to stop and sight see, hike and do almost anything you want, at dusk the elk are quite active and usually closer to the road, the big horn sheep come down onto the road occasionally. If you have the time this parkway is worth the trip.

This is an excellent road if you want to get away from the Trans Canada Highway for a while. Even though we didn't get to see any animals this time around, normally its a pretty good place to spot some.

Great views winding through the mountains and alongside the river. Cuts half an hour off the old route.
