the day we visited the clouds were sitting below the tops of the mountains and the view was amazing. My husband loves taking photos - we were there for a while!

I love the slow drive along the Vermillion lakes which is short but beautiful. Stop to take pictures of the reflections of the famous Rundle Mountain in the background, or visit with the geese and their little families along the shores. Benches are placed along the drive to get out of your car and just sit and breathe in the fresh mountain air with a view!

A lovely drive around these lakes, presenting quite different scenery. Lots of places to stop and enjoy the views.

Although the are called lakes, they are not like the hundreds of others. They are more of a wetlands which is ideal for wildlife.
Like most people have pointed out, its one of those locations where on a calm day you will get the photo where you get a perfect reflection of the mountains on the water.
Its just a short ride out of Banff towards the Trans Canadian highway.
If you have an hour or two to spare on a calm day, go have a look, it is worthwhile.

Just outside of downtown Banff next to the Trans-Canadian Parkway (a noisy distraction) is a dead end drive through the vermillion lakes. If in the area it's worth a stop to try to catch a picture of wildlife with a scenic mountain background on the shallow lakes. We hit it midday between rainstorms so not as good for reflections off the lake. We did get close ups of an Elk who was obviously used to humans taking pictures of him.
