“amazing room at the Caribou!”
Reviewed June 23, 2005

We had a loft room and it was one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in! The living room was spacious and had a fireplace as well as a small bathroom, not to mention the VIEW. It was as if it was in a post card. The upstairs had a nice sized sleeping area, then a separate room for the two person jacuzzi (including sky lights) and yet another private room for the large bathroom.

The hotel was well located for walking into the village. Breakfast buffet was nice. The staff was helpful. Parking was free. If you are going to splurge on a room, getting the loft is more than worth it!

Picked this hotel for our tour of the Rockies & BC based on previous reviews & I'm glad we did. We had the basic Queen twin room, which was big enough for both of us, with the best hotel beds we have slept in for a long time (feather beds). Staff were friendly and efficient. Parking was free. Buffet breakfast in the Keg restaurant at CN$11.99 was great value at current UK/Canadian exchange rates.
Funny to see that most visitors while we were there were Brits!

Stayed at the Caribou Lodge from reading previous reviews and we were not dissapointed. Great hotel, lovely location as it was a bit out of the town about a 10 mins walk. Great food, good prices. Room was lovely and clean.

Bar in the hotel (The keg) was great as well. We thought that as Banff is a party town there would be tonnes of pubs and nightlife. We found a few places but very poor. Enjoyed staying in the hotel bar most of the time. We felt the best pub in Banff. Walking into town we saw some of the other hotels that was on offer from the travel agents and we were glad to have picked the Caribou.

Great value, great pub, great hotel.

P.S. A bit dissapointed of the town itself. Was nice but I had very high expectations.

This year was the second on the bounce that my wife and i have stayed at the Caribou and believe me the second was as good as the first! The rooms are great. I didn't feel they were cramped at all, even with two doubles. Bathrooms spacious and very clean. The hot tub area consists of 3 tubs plus steam room and sauna, can get full at times but you can always squeeze in! Where the hotel scores for me is the hotel and restaurant areas. Some people say Banff does not have good apres ski, but the Caribou bar is great after a day on the slopes with a great atmosphere. Bar staff are second to none, never letting your glass go empty! Great bar food is served in the Bar, you can also go through to adjoining Keg restaurant for fantastic steaks, probably the best in Banff (try the garlic mash, its awesome). The ski bus stops right outside the hotel and is one of the first stops so you can always get on the first bus. The hotel is about a ten minute walk into Banff centre and if this is a problem to you they even lay on a shuttle bus. We would have no hesitation going back next year but we're gonna try a differant resort. Overall a fantastic hotel!

I booked a weekend at the Banff Caribou on Hotels for some late season snowboarding after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor.

First, here's the bad: rooms were sightly small, parking garage was a little narrow, it could have been a few blocks closer to downtown and no Big Rock beer on tap.

All in all, if that's the worst that happend, it was a pretty good stay!

Here's the good: Excellent value for the money, large bathroom, clean room, everyone was friendly (somewhat ubiquitous in Canada), excellent breakfast buffet for the money.

I'd certainly stay at the Banff Caribou again, but if money was no object I'd like to try the Banff Springs since it looks like the hotel in The Shining. Nothin' like quickly opening the bathroom door on the Mrs. and saying, "Here's Johny".

Banff Caribou is one of my more regular hotels in Banff. It offers a nice rustic ski lodge feel to it that seems to fit in well with the ski environment. The front entrance usually has a nice fire and people sitting around the fire reading and maybe having a glass of wine.

The room we had was a deluxe but we could not get a king size bed which was unfortunate. Otherwise we found the room to be average quality, nice & clean, but maybe a bit on the small side. The hotel was not as quiet as we would have liked largely due to ski family activity out in the halls. But if you are a family with kids then this hotel would make sense for you. If you are looking for a more couplesee hotel then a place like the Royal Canadian Lodge might make more sense. The free underground parking and ski lockers is a nice feature of the hotel. Regardin the buffet I had read another review that was favourable about it but we found it at best average. Believe me I am not fussy when it comes to food but the selection did not seem to be as varied as others buffets I have been to and the french toast was quite dry.

In the end I would go back to the Caribou as it is a solid performer but it is priced accordingly and for me it will not really stick out as a unique experience.
