Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa
Ranked #14 of 33 Hotels in Banff
Reviewed March 24, 2009

This year was the 3rd year my husband and I, together with another couple, stayed at the Caribou Lodge. We stayed for 11 nts and went in Jan 09 as we went skiing. Its a great location, especially for the ski buses as its the second stop so the bus isn't packed by the time you have to get on it. Its near to the shops too, about a 10 min walk or you can get a free shuttle bus. The hotel itself is lovely, the rooms are big and the service is brilliant. Whatever you want the staff are always willing to help. There is a lovely big fire in reception and the spa is really nice too. The restaurant is the Keg Steakhouse which did the most amazing food. The only negative point I would say is that there are not enough space for all your clothes in the room (especially skiing clothes) but that is only a very minor point.

We had a great time at the Caribou Lodge! The staff was so helpful, the hot tub is huge and there's a keg in the lobby! What more could you ask for?! They give you a pass to use the public transit which is great for getting into downtown (although it is only a 5-10 minute walk) and the ski shuttles come right out front.

We were in Banff one week in February for skiing in the area. Weather and skiing were great, which we unfortunately can't say about Caribou lodge. We had a pretty small room of average motel size down in the basement. Dark with a very small window towards the neighbor hotel's parking garage and smelling from the pool and nearby parking garage in or own hotel.

This was really disappointing and not up to the standard you could expect. Poor value for money. Next time in Banff we will stay at another hotel.

We chose this hotel based on other trip advisor reviews and it lived up to the expectation. It has a wonderful spa pool and steam room perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. The hotel is well served by the ski buses and also the local roam bus for which the hotel gives you coutesy tickets. The bar and restaurant in the hotel are worth a vist but you must definitely go to The Elk and Oarsman pub in town especially on Mondays with Pizzas for $9.

We stayed in the Caribou Lodge for 10 nights in Feb 20009.
The hotel was a nice hotel. What you would expect for the area.
It was a 10 minute walk from the town centre, but there was free public transport almost from the door about every 30 minutes.
The price of food and drink was quite expensive, but this is expected in the area.
Staff were all very helpful.
There is free use of the swimming pool, sauna & gym facilities.
My only complaints were, we had a superior room which was supposed to have a mountain view, but the trees blocked most of the view of the mountain. And there wasn't a fridge in the room.
A good hotel for the price you pay.

This is the second time we have stayed here, we love it. The rooms are very comfortable and are always cleaned to a high standard. The doona on the bed is beautiful to sleep under and very warm. This year we stayed for 4 nights from 8th January, the scenery in Banff was breathtaking. The walk into town is about 10-15 mins, but we love to walk and take in the scenery, there is a safeway just down the street which is very handy. If you are staying in Banff during the Winter months make sure that you do a Lake Louise Tour and a MUST is a dog sledding experience, this was the highlight of our one month Canada/USA holiday. The staff at Caribou are amazing and went out of their way to help us when our luggage was lost for 3 days. We will always stay at the Banff Caribou Lodge and Spa ..... we love it. Wow!
Our first trip to Canada was fantastic! The caribou offered a great base to hit the ski slopes from but also only a short 8 minute walk into the main part of the town made it a great location. When the temperatures went down to -30 however we found the free courtesay bus very handy!
Our standard room was large with very comfortable beds, a large flat screen TV and was always kept clean by the maid. The fire in the lounge was an extreamley welcoming site when getting back on an afternoon and relaxing before retiring for the night. I would highly recommend The Keg restaurant. Be warned, however, as the breakfasts are huge but really do set you up for a day skiing. The meals in the evening were also of a very high standard and we thought the prices were very resonable for the amount of food provided. We would also recommend Chilis restaurant and The Elk and Oarsman in the main part of the town.
While in Banff be sure to visit Johnston's Canyon and the Gondona up Sulphur Mountainas which was also fantastic and very breathtaking.
Would happily come back to this hotel again. Enjoy!
