“Great Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2010

We stayed at the hotel for two nights in September - the location is great and very close to the main town areas and shops and restaurants.

The hotel itself looks like and old style motel-type building and although the rooms were a little dated they were large clean and comfortable.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and you are able to use the facilities of the larger hotel across the road. To use the swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi you need to ask for a key card from reception whihc gives you free access - we used the pool area one afternoon - it was quiet and very relaxing.

The only slight drawback was the noise of trains during the night - if you are a light sleeper this could wake you.

Overall I would have no hesitation staying here again

This Inn is in downtown Banff on a side street with free parking just outside. It doesn't look much from the outside and when I saw it I thought it was going to be dreadful. I was so wrong.

Our ground floor room was simply furnished but spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. It had a fridge and coffee maker plus TV and a desk. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and gave us an entry card for the hotel opposite for free access to their swimming pool . The nearby Wild Flour Bakery does good breakfast.

Downside? No aircon. The road outside is busy but relatively quiet at night. However if you open the windows anywhere in downtown Banff you hear the train horns at night. Easily fixed with ear plugs.

Wish we had booked more nights there and not moved on.

Stayed at the Homestead for five nights. Although its on a main road there is little noise even with the windows open (no air con in our room). Room was spacious, kept clean and the Motel had a deal with the hotel on the other side of the road (part of the same group) for a buffet breakfast for $10.00 (Can) per person.. Very good value. The motel in located just to the west of the main street in Banff. Nowhere took more that 5-6 minutes to walk to. Good off road parking as well. I would recommend and use this motel again.

All staff were very helpful and did their best to make me feel at home.
Large room, a bit outdated but clean and quiet.
Great location as very close to train/bus station and the town centre.

The Homestead Inn is a simple, basic motel that does one thing well. The room was a nice size and clean. It has a coffee maker, bar fridge, good TV, decent internet, good blackout drapes and the sheets and towels were clean with lots of life in them. There was only one night table, the windows were fussy and it is on a noisy street. The front desk staff and housekeepers were pleasant and accomodating. It is well located to take in Banff's features or as a base for daily exploring or skiing. As long as it's priced moderately then it's good value.

I have many positive things to say about the Homestead Inn in Banff: The rooms (although somewhat dated) are spacious, very clean, and affordable. Parking is free. The location is excellent - only a few blocks from restaurants and shopping on Banff Avenue. Guests also have access to the facilities at the Banff Park Lodge across the street, including the fitness room, pool, and jacuzzi.

But the one major drawback we encountered during our stay was that the rooms do not have air conditioning. The day we checked into the hotel, our ground floor room was extremely warm. So we turned on a small fan provided by the hotel and then opened the windows which face directly on to Lynx Street. It was OK at first, but as the night progressed we heard noise from cars on the street, pedestrians talking as they walked by, freight train whistles, and loud patrons leaving the restaurant/bar (Melissa's) next door early in the AM. And perhaps the most annoying noises came from the large number of diesel tour buses coming and going from the Banff Park Lodge across the street. My wife and I joked that the Banff Park Lodge at times seemed more like a Greyhound station than a hotel. We were traveling with an infant and needless to say the noise was an issue and was very frustrating for all of us.

The next day, as the weather cooled in Banff, the room became much more comfortable and we did not have to open the windows. Most of the outside noise was either completely eliminated or greatly reduced, which made our stay much more enjoyable. So the bottom line is that if we were to return to the Homestead Inn, we would probably only do so during the cold winter months so that the lack air conditioning would be a non-issue.

Just spent the weekend at the Homestead Inn. The room was large and clean. The staff friendly and helpful. Hotel has parking and is located within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, etc. Paid $79 a night which was a good price for Banff. Would stay here again.
