Owner description: Banff National Park's largest waterway.

Lake Minnewanka is the largest lake in the Banff/Jasper National Parks region. Well worth visiting, particularly for sunrises...and for the boat ride that you can take. Several hiking trails are available too. Other sites are on the way in and on the way out, as you can make a loop route.

A nice spot to go and have a picnic and maybe a swim. The surroundings are very relaxing, and nice to look at. I saw a few people in the water and it felt like a reasonable temperature for a swim. I am not sure about the water and the depth of it? I am assuming there are no under currents...maybe something to check out. There was a nice camping grounds close which would be awesome to stay!

I have never taken the boat tour, but I want to someday. This is a dammed lake but oh so beautiful against the blue waters reflecting the mountains. Almost every drive across this dam you will see the Rocky Mountain Sheep families in the summer with this little ones.

We were visiting Banff so decided to drop by Lake Minnewanka. It's only a 15min drive outside of Banff so perfectly accessible.

The Lake is mighty big and lovely to walk around.

There is a cafe too, but sadly as we went out of season in late September it was closed.
