Owner description: There’s no comparing the emerald green waters of Minnewanka with any urban landscape. Mountain ridges stretch as far as the eye can see, eventually blurring into a blissful cascade of colours.

You don't have to drive all the way to Lake Louise to enjoy a lovely setting (if strapped for time and can't make it there). This one is a lovely lake surrounded by mountains, and there is even a little boat that takes you around the lake, even on a chilly afternoon in May!

Another really lovely and relaxing drive - loads of places to stop and take photos - also a great place to see bighorn sheep.

Great place to visit anytime of year. Great hiking in the summer and fall that isn't too challenging!

We drove out here expecting to see a frozen lake, but what we found was a fairyland. Light snow fell, obscuring sharp lines in the distant mountains and making all our photos appear black and white. This area is practically deserted in the winter, so the silence was peace-bringing. The setting is picturesque and wild, and I wish we had had the energy to walk further.

One recommendation: If you hike this lake shore in the winter, bring hiking or ski poles, as the trail is icy in places.

This is a very large lake in teh rockies, although it has been artificially enlarged via a dam at the top of it. Long before Parks Canada came along. This is actually one of two lakes in the Canadian Rockies that you can actually have a motor boat on. The other being Maligne Lake. There are boat tours here running regularly. There is a large parking lot and many trails to hike. You can also grab a bite to eat or an ice cream. The back drop to this lake are the jagged peaks of the rockies. In the afternoon with the sun on the lake, it is a beautiful blue color.
