Came here in mid-January and it was cold! Make sure to be warm and wear extra clothing, gloves and scarfs. The walk and view was breathtaking. I definitely recommend the ride.

Hi koul25,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we really appreciate it.

The weather can be quite cold in the Winter so we always suggest layering up. The upper terminal is however fully heated.

We are glad you enjoyed the boardwalk and the views it offers.

Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again.

The Gondola Ride in Banff is a must, It surely shouldn't be missed! The view is just breathtaking, even more so in the winter--under the white twinkle of fallen snow. Words alone cannot express the beautiful view from the Gondola of the Canadian Rockies and Bow Valley. The Gondola Ride seats 4 and takes you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, which houses Castle Mountain Coffee (a cafe with lots of baked goodies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and sandwiches) and mountaintop dining at the Sky Bistro. There are also great facts and camping safety information to discover indoors of the summit building, which is just beautifully decorated at Christmas time. Outdoors is the rooftop observation deck, where you feel like one with nature's beautiful creation. An entire day can be spent here just enjoying the view and having a meal or two (which I didn't do). Maybe, that would be well worth the admission price. Otherwise, if you're on one of the organized tours in the area or from Calgary, it is quite expensive for the time allotted ( I didn't get the opportunity to check the prices of the menu for the cafe or the bistro). It's a good idea to plan ahead and check for specials prior to heading straight for the gondola ride. This is why I didn't give it an excellent because walking up to buy tickets without prior research, especially for a family of 4, can be quite shocking.

Hi Gaucanada,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we really appreciate it.

We agree the views really are beautiful in the Winter. The Summer season is a great time to hike up the mountain to enjoy the views. However, during our Summer season it is only free to ride down the gondola before 10am and after 7pm.

Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again.

We booked a meal at the restaurant on the top of the mountain and used the gondola to ascend. The actual cars were much smaller than we expected, sitting 4 comfortably, but 6 at a squeeze. Oddly there was no heating or lighting, which when it was -10 outside was quite surprising - however they did supply blankets. The latter point about no lights only became an issue on the way back down in the dark, which although atmospheric, made it quite scary for the kids whom didn’t like it at all for such a lengthy ride. As our ride ticket was included in the meal price I can’t tell you what it would costs to ride up individually, but the view from the top was spectacular- but bitter. I’m sure it would be more enjoyable in the summer. Overall, it’s impressive, but would have been more enjoyable if they had maybe installed some low voltage strip lights for nighttime trips. As for the cold, just dress warm!

Hi Evalu8,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we really appreciate it.

We are so sorry your kids found the ride down scary without the lights ,we will be sure to relay this information to the relevant department for future guests.

The weather can be quite bitter in Banff in the Winter so we would always suggest layering up for the journey, especially if you want to do the boardwalk at the summit as well.

We hope you enjoyed your time with us and thanks again for your feedback.
