“Spectacular view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Banff Springs! It didnt start too well: the room we were initially assigned to was directly over an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the bar below us so that we were blasted with noise and not a very pleasant view. I asked to be switched and to their credit, we did get a better room with a beautiful view of the mountains. No offer to help move our luggage tho. Customer Service is lacking.

The spa was a luxurious experience and sitting on the sundeck on a sunny day was heavenly. Bento box lunch served by the fireplace in the sitting area inside was fun and freshly made.

Rooms in the "older" section are clean well maintained and spacious, if a little dated. Bathrooms are large with plenty of counter space. Windows open for fresh mountain air; hallways are quiet/rooms well insulated from noise. Good variety of restaurants on-site and a short walk to town for more options: an organic sandwich place was a cool find in town! Afternoon High Tea at Fairmont Banff Springs is a little luxury looking out over the mountains of an afternoon - dont miss it, its not a stuffy affair - jeans were worn by most.

The Glaciers are a side trip not to be missed and only an hour's drive or so from the hotel. Lots of walking trails around the hotel property for strolling by the creek. One of our most relaxing and refreshing getaways!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the air conditioning vents of the restaurant/bar! Mountain views are amazin...

To begin, I am a travel agent, live in Calgary, so my wife, baby and I stay here a few times a year. Of all the hotels we have ever stayed in, this is our favorite.
We realize we are extremely lucky to be able to stay here, as we feel most people would class this hotel as one of the most memorable they have ever stayed in.
Whether your first view is from Tunnel Mountain Road, looking down, or driving towards the hotel to check-in, you cannot dispute the beauty and grandeur of this hotel.
Rooms vary in size, service has always been excellent, there are many restaurants here, plus a deli on the gound level.
Winter is a great time to stay, especially around Christmas. The staff do a fantastic job of making the hotel look amazing.
Valet parking is not much more than self parking, so worth thinking of.
Outdoor swimming pool is surrounded by fir trees, in the winter your body feels warm, your head cold - it's a great feeling!
Have used the spa a few times, it's not cheap, but for a treat - well worth doing. And if you are staying here, you will likely feel like making the most of your stay.
Have eaten here as well in many of the restaurants, incl room service - have never been disappointed. Not the cheapest place to eat, but quality and presentation are very good.
If you get a chance to stay here, do it - and learn about the history. Oh, and it's haunted!

The location of this hotel is perfect with the Bow Valley on one side and Sulphur Mountain with the Banff Gondola and Upper Hot Springs on the other. There are so many things to do in and around the hotel you should never get bored. With many beautiful halls and nooks that exploring can occupy much time. We love to look at all the art and artifacts, looking for hotel secrets, it's like a museum.
The buffets are awesome! The service, top notch. The Christmas dinner buffet was so good I wished I could eat more.
There were some negatives, one being our room. It had just been nicely renovated but it was so hot that I never slept through a single night even with the windows open and thermostat on low. Also a very expensive lens for my wife's camera was stolen from our room.
Always use the in room safe! We reported it to the front desk and they said they would leave a note for the cleaning staff. Thanks. Really what else could they do?! We won't be going back during Christmas as it was so busy you couldn't relax in the pools or hot tubs. In fact during the day the place is so crowded you have to leave the hotel to get away from it all. People are free to roam around and use the pools even if they aren't staying at the hotel, so we didn't spend as much time soaking as I would have liked.

I spent many nights at the Banff Springs, however this last time I have to write to tell how excellent was the approach of one of the supervisor or manager (dont know exactly) in the bar-lounge. I just want to congratulate their effort to follow up with guests needs or questions. Amazing service.

May I say from the outset , this is difinitely on the "bucket list" and is simply stunning . The hotel building is quite exceptional . The problem comes from the attitude of staff . Our room entrance key card kept on malfunctioning and we went back to the reception three times , even the bell boy had to get a new card/key when we checked in . The staff kept on saying it was a result of our mobile phones , but we had no phones on us after traveling from Australia . Each time the reception staff just shrugged off the issue . On the second day we requested a early wake up call , but never happened . Later at Lake Louise Fairmont , I found out the telephone system in the rooms where quite tricky and at that hotel we where told how to dis-engage the phone and hang up correctly so as the next day the call would work . No such help at Banff . May be Banff Fairmont has a degree of "smugness" so "why bother ' . But if I managed that hotel , my aim would be to make it the best in the world from all aspects , becuase they already have the most outstanding facility .

Room Tip: park down the road , save the cost

I have to start with the pool area...it's fantastic! Banff Springs has a full-length pool that has a real deep end (about 10 feet). The pool is not full width, but it does have two lanes for swimmers that want to do lengths that take-up about half of the width, and then the other half is open for play. The best part is the entrance to the hot pool outside that leaves you exposed to the air for only a few seconds and the hot pool is not as hot as the hot pool located indoors - the outdoor hot pool is tolerable for a lengthy soak/swim. We'll come back just for the pool - it's not as crowded as the Sulfer Mountain public hot pool.
We stayed in a room that overlooked the oval skating rink and had an unobstructed view of the beautiful Bow Valley. The heating system worked great (it was about minus 20 degrees celcius outside!).
While we did not eat, this time, at the hotel - it's quite expensive, we have eaten there before and have never been disappointed with the food. Because we were only staying one night, we brought food from the Subway in Banff and the Lotus Lotus (I think it was called) in the food court of one of the malls. The Lotus food was one of the best Asian cuisine fast foods that we ever had - it was all delicious! If you want to spend money at the restaraunts here, you shouldn't be disappointed, eating wasn't meant to be the highlight of our trip, so we saved quite a bit of money in the dining department. Our room had a fridge, but no microwave.

Room Tip: We had room #425 - North wing I think and facing east. There is a large/tall section of the hotel t...

I went to this hotel and was in love with its castle like quality. Every aspect of this hotel was beautiful, though I was very embarrassed to have security knock on our door during a quiet tryst to be told that the neighbours were complaining about the noise level (we were keeping it down to a reasonable level).
