“Check before you book ..building work ! stay at The Fox instead”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the delta park lodge. On arrival I was told our room was 2 queens, I advised I booked a king but was told there were none available, but would be contacted after the weekend if any become available. The problems started when we returned from a days skiing jet lagged and intent on going for an afternoon nap to be met to the sound of builders directly outside our bedroom window replacing the roof.. The noise was unbearable! We had not been informed of any building work and given that we were staying for a week and most other people just a weekend stay, you think we would have been given priority over rooms as the hotel was empty during the week. Again the building work started at 8.30 in the morning. We complained on the 4th day and was told we could change rooms but we were leaving in 2 days and we're on the slopes all day, but pointed out twice that I expected to pay a reduced rate. When we came to check out the lady manager was very rude and unprofessional. She informed me that they in fact had had a better room become available on Monday"a really nice room" she couldn't understand why we didn't take the upgrade.. Duh we were never informed.. There was no message on the phone, no note under the door, no informing us ever time we stopped at the front desk.. Just her informing us on check out. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.. She was telling me it was our fault we hadn't taken the upgrade, I assure you I would defiantly would have upgraded if we had been offered it on the Monday! Even when I complained on the Wednesday they never said "oh we've had a better room for you all week"Very rude and very unprofessional.. Defiantly not a relaxing stay.. I feel shattered from the lack of sleep! She offered us one free breakfast for $60 dollars .. Would not stay here again despite my children living in Banff because of the manager giving the hotel a bad name. I would point out the rest of the staff were excellent and very friendly but next time I'll stay next door at the Fox.

The minute we walked in comfy chairs, a warm fire and a smiling Hello greeted us.
Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the bartender. Our room was great, clean, with a gas fireplace, king bed and still room to move and a nice bathroom. Soft towels and well stocked.
view Cascade mountain was breathtaking!

Room Tip: Use AMA rate. Rooms at the back view Cascade mountain.

Arrived late afternoon following a snowy drive from Calgary. Warm and friendly welcome from reception and concierge. We had booked a junior exec deluxe suite and were not disappointed.Fabulous mountain view (corner unit), spacious, MASSIVE bed, sofa suite. large TV, lovely bathroom with double shower and spa bath and best of all INSTANT real affect fire. Just what you need after a hard day on the slopes to toast your toes. (ask for Rm 311).
If honest the hotel is a little further down Banff Avenue which can be a chilly walk on a blizzardy evening...but hey thats part of the fun and certainly not a reason to be put off.
If you have a car you'll be a happy bunny, there are 2 parking floors underneath the building (free valet parking with our room) and even better they are heated so the car is ready to go and you don't freeze up until you hit the slopes. The lovely staff wash and clean your windscreen each morning- nice touch (not sure if this is standard - we are Brits after all!!).
What else?..the room was quiet and beautifully serviced each day (smellies/towels etc replaced daily , usual recycle policy in place for laundry). Decent fridge to accommodate water, soda's and more , filter coffee machine, utility sink and cupboards to store items. Complimentary wifi and good connection for all your gadgets. Ice and soda machine on each floor.
We didn't sample the offerings of the Evergreen restaurant and from the reviews seems like we may have missed out...certainly the room service late night Nachos blew 'The Keg's- Downtown' inept offerings out of the water!! We also skied ourselves stupid each day and never found ourselves with the energy or time to experience the pool/spa - looked good though.
We ski in US or Canada each year and really enjoyed our stay at the Delta Banff ...it topped many of the past hotels and the upgraded room was worth every singe cent.
Top marks for all staff...those at front of house and those we didn't see directly. You really made a memorable ski trip and we hope to see you again. Thank you

Room Tip: ask for 311 if you want larger suite with fire and view

Went up for a night from Calgary just to get away, and this hotel worked perfectly. Close enough to the downtown area without actually being there, the staff is excellent and the rooms quite comfortable. People are right about some of the common areas looking a little dated, but they are clean and that's the most important part. Nice little pool area and spa down in the basement, and the new bar area was perfect for watching the NFL playoff game prior to dinner. Special mention to our bartender who went out of his way to get us a reservation at Saltlik that night - we had been told it would not be a problem, but he wanted to make sure we were able to get in without waiting. It is that kind of service that makes you keep coming back.

We stayed for three nights in January, and were impressed by the staff and cleanliness of the hotel. Vanessa on Reception was particularly helpful when we checked in, and we would also like to mention (Dan?) in the bar area.

We had travelled from staying overnight at the Delta at Calgary Airport, and our experience at check in/departure as a Platinium Delta Privilege member at that hotel wasn't at all good.

The hotel is located within walking distance of town. Our room was spacious and well appointed. There was upgrade work going on in the reception area, but they did their best to keep disruption to a minimum

Whilst this isn't the best hotel in Banff, it is well priced for the accommodation.

My first room had a view of the maintenance shed. The shower in my second room didn't work. The lounge hours were poor. It was a further walk to downtown than advertised. Overall, the room was overpriced for what it was. Not up to the Delta standard.

Thank you for your review. We are terribly sorry you were inconvenienced by having to change rooms. Our Executive Housekeeper is aware of your feedback and we have addressed the issue that you reported. Some of our guestrooms face an old house that is privately owned and unfortunately, there is not much that we can do about it. Once again thanks a lot for your review which will absolutely help us to improve the quality of our services. We hope this inconvenience will not prevent us from the pleasure of hosting you on your next travel to Banff.

We've visited the Delta Royal Canadian Lodge a few times over the past few years.

The rooms are good size, as compared to other high end properties in Banff, very clean and in relatively good/new condition. However the common areas (hallways, restaurant, spa, pool area) look "tired" and in dire need of a facelift.

The hotel is fairly small, and there's nothing to do there (the bar is always dead...), so don't expect the hustle and bustle and the majestic common areas of the Banff Springs or Rimrock.

Overall the hotel is a good value for the money. The prices are pretty decent, even during the crazy Christmas season (when all hotels in Banff jack up their prices...), it's located very close to downtown Banff, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Only thing that turned me off during our latest visit was that they charged us for a local call we made (I haven't been charged for a local call by a hotel in years. This is 2013 people!). If I knew there was a charge I'd easily use my cell phone. Not that the charge was significant, but it's a turn off seeing Delta nickel and diming for a local call in this day and age...

Room Tip: Go for the standard rooms. They're larger than the rooms with the fireplace!
