“Very nice place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2008

Great room and best bathroom for the price - steam shower and jacuzzi bathtub done up beautifully.
Comfortable king-size bed and o.k. pillows.
An "Executive Suite" is the cheapest. I would stay there again, no problem.
Cheapest way to book a room here is on-line ($148.98 Cdn.)
What's the catch? It's a 5 minute drive, at the most, outside of the village. Could walk into the village, but it's all uphill coming back.
A 2 minute walk away is the youth hostel that serves decent meals.

My husband & I spent 3 nights at Tunnel Mountain Resort in Banff in June. The hotel's location is less than a five minute drive to the town. This makes for an ideal location, away from the touristy feel, yet close enough to everything. Our "executive suite" was a very nice size, modern hotel room, with granite counters, microwave and fridge, a jacuzzi tub and a separate all glass shower, with a steam bath. We also had a working gas fireplace and a balcony with an exceptional view of the beautiful Banff mountains. The hotel had a small kidney shaped pool and hot tub which we enjoyed. Staff was friendly and helpful. We booked our hotel on hotels.com and got a fabulous rate. Our stay in Banff was truly a find.

We stayed in an executive room and agree with most other writers that although the outside appearance of the resort isn't the best, the room itself was huge, well equipped, clean and comfortable. The bed was about the biggest I've ever seen, the TV was a good size (the DVD player is NOT region-free however) the bathroom had a jetted tub and steam shower (didn't try the latter) and there was a small indoor pool and hot tubs available. A coffee maker was provided but no kettle, so we boiled water for making tea in the microwave (not ideal but doable). There was nothing in the way of crockery and cutlery if you did want to microwave meals, but we chose to eat out anyway. A small convenience store is situated right across the street, although pricey, it was very useful for milk and snacks (as the town is about a mile away). Although the balcony overlooks the road it was very quiet at night (apart from the dreaded trains - why aren't they banned from hooting in built up areas???), and there was a lovely mountain view. After all the taxes it worked out at about $150 per night, which seemed very reasonable for Banff for the level of comfort and amenities. One particular thing we liked was the Rockies guidebook included in the room, less good was to discover one day that housekeeping had left our door open (we weren't robbed fortunately).

The first time We stayed at this resort it was completely spot on! Unfortunately, over the years, the standards have decreased. The Steam room and the space was nice in the Executive Suites but the cleanliness left a lot to be desired....black grout, chocolate sweets on the floor as we entered the room. The toiletries were not renewed either when they had been used. On one of the days they forgot to clean the room at all. ..etc, etc.I gave a list to the manager and discussed the problems. The location and room itself I do prefer. Tunnel mountain is a bit away from the bustle of the town centre but it's nice up there. In future I will try somewhere else though.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tunnel mountain resort during one of our snowboarding trips. We got a really good deal online (their website). Almost half price of what you would normally pay for the executive room. The room includes:
-a gas fireplace-very nice
-a king size bed-quite comfortable, seemed very clean
-a jacuzzi and steam shower-brand new, in great condition, was pretty awesome actually, the best part of the room
-a mini fridge and microwave-weird spot, under the sinks in bathroom (toilet, shower, jacuzzi in seprate room from sinks) but it worked and it didnt bother us at all.... had we paid full price maybe it would have bothered me

I do have to complain that the parking was very very very inconvienient. You had to basically hope that there was a spot close to your room.
Also the location is about a 10-20min walk from main Banff. It was winter when we were there so we drove...about 5 min. NO big deal. But when you return to the hotel your spot is gone.
The view was pretty average. Again not a big deal during the winter as you didnt go out much.
Also the pool was far away. For us to go swimming than have to run outside to get to our room was very sucky in the cold winter months.

Overall the experience was great for what we paid. For regular price I would not feel that it was worth it. Than again I am a cheap [--] and always like to get the best deals.... so if i had to pay 250-300 for the room I woulda been disappointed just for the fact that I paid that much :)

Hope this helps.

We just returned from touring Glacier and Banff. We booked four nights at this resort and left after the first night-Why??well, the place was full of ants-even in the refrigerator; the place was not clean and it was run by very young people who were polite but didn't have a clue how to run a hotel. It is not near the town and although I hike and bike allot I didn't like being deceived into thinking it was. We left and went to the Paradise Bungalows in Lake Louise which is a much better place to stay if you are looking to get away and be relaxed.

We chose this hotel because we got an amazing deal online...Don't know that I would pay full price but it was a nice place to spend a weekend with the discount.
We had an executive suite with a great Jacuzzi Tub and Steam Shower. King bed was comfortable and the gas fireplace was very nice. Our balcony had a view of the resort across the street but Rundle Mountain behind it.
Room was very quiet and had a partial kitchen....which was a tiny bar fridge coffe maker and a microwave under the counter between the bathroom sinks which i found kind of gross but i guess it worked (toilet and tub/shwer had a separate room)
One down side is that there is no assigned parking and the parking is very narrow I'm not sure how the big trucks managed to get in and out. On our last day there someone had taken the spot right in front of our room we ask the hotel staff where to park and it was well where ever you can. For what you pay at these hotels I would expect to know where I'm parking so my car isn't on the other side of the resort.
so a few inconvieniences but if you're not planning on having much food in your room (we usually hit the restaurants anyway) it's a great place to stay and handy to have a fridge for water.
