“Basic room no thanks, loft suite OK”
Reviewed May 19, 2008

Stayed 2 nights in May having got a good price for long weekend. We were booked into the one bedroom unit which had dated decor, cold floor tiles throughout, and very basic furnishings. Our heating didn't work so management moved us to a loft suite in Rundleview suites after their maintenance man was unable to fix the problem. They were very obliging, apologetic and prompt in their service. The loft suite was definitely an improvement. It was much more spacious and although still dated and with some maintenance problems it had a large loft area with kind size bed and lots of space as well as double bed in separate room, kitchen and lounge/eating area. The loft had a second toilet & basin. The utensils and crockery in the kitchen were minimal (no teaspoons, only 4 plates, 4 tiny bowls etc.) but flat screen TV, nice sofa, view of Mt Rundle and carpetted floor made this a much better room than the original. I definitely wouldn't stay in their basic one bed room cabin but would probably stay in the loft apartment if the price was right . It was just OK.

  • Liked — Location, size of loft suite in Rundleview, management response to heating problem
  • Disliked — Shabby decor, poor maintenance

Couple (25-30)stayed there for five days from 14-19th of April in executive suite.

Accommodation was wonderful and cheap @ £60 sterling for the room per night. Steam room/ shower, jet tub.Big t.v with satellite. Lovely fireplace (gas), massive bed. small kitchen area of fridge, microwave and kettle. views were of mountains but trees obscurred view still great though. about 15mins walk from town but regular shuttle bus for $2 single. we had car so no probs. cost of taxi to town @$8 with tip included.

Norquay ski resort had just closed so Lake louise and Sunshine Village were open. Lake louise is about 45mins away but has cheaper beginner classes. Tried skiing in Sunshine village (15kms away) and snow boarding in lake louise. We drove to resorts but weather can change from warm one day and then a load of snow the next so will take longer to drive.roads can get icy at night so please be careful. saw one car up on side of the road!!

lots of nice trails around banff town. saw a wolf and loads of deer.
Banff had loads of shops which were modern and up to date and lots of variety. As coming near the end of skiing season it was difficult to get the right size of ski pants (34). ended up getting some 2nd hand bargains which were like new and didnt smell.lots of good places to eat for all tastes.

Then went to Jasper after this which was a let down and some shady characters about which made us very uncomfortable and wanting to return to Banff. (Sorry for negative view Jasperians)Would return to Banff in a shot!!

Well what can i say... We loved Tunnel Mountain Resort! We were sooooo glad that we didn't spend the first night of our Honeymoon in the Rockies in Calgary. Eventhough we didn't fancy the drive to Banff, 1 1/2 hours (I know not very long but when you have been cooped up on a plane for 9 1/2 hours we didn't think we'd be bothered), we were more than glad that we did. Before i carry on though i'd like to mention that when we arrived at Calgary Airport and picked up our hire car we had to pay an unexpected $64 airport tax which apparently only applies to two airports in Canada. Also on the subject of unexpected charges, we hadn't been told that on entering Banff National Park you have to buy a pass to cover you for the amount of days you will be staying, ours cost $90 for 5 days (it is worth it though!). The resort wasn't too big, it was not noisy, there are places to have barbeques, the indoor pool was small but seemed adequate (we didn't have time to use it), the gym (my weight training husband informs me) was small but again adequate, there was plenty of parking outside your accommodation and the room was lovely, clean and had the biggest comfiest bed i've ever slept in! There was a bath jacuzzi and a large shower/steam cubical which worked very well. The view of the montains from the balcony was beautiful and eventhough we were facing the road, noise was minimal and did not bother us at all and we live in the middle of nowhere so are used to QUIET! We saw wild animals regularly from the balcony such as Cyotee, Elk and ground squirels. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Town wasn't too far to drive to and there was lots of choice (and i hate shopping!) Some people may moan that there were major works being done to the town centre whilst we were there but you had to see past it and realise it was for a reason, we were not inconvenienced by it at all, and i bet it will look even better in 2008 i just wish we were going back to see or ourselves.
There were so many things to see and do that it would have been nice to stay longer, one thing i would say though is that i wouldn't recomend the Discover Banff Tours Wildlife Safari', it was a blue bus crambed full of people hoping to see bears all of whome seemed quite dissapointed when they only saw what we had all been seeing for free as we drove around each day. As for the bears we paid a fortune in Banff and didn't even come close to seeing any we were always being told how we 'must have just missed them', if we were to go again and were also visiting Whistler we would wait and see them there which is almost guaranteed we had a brilliant informative guide who took us off road which was very bumpy but worth a little jigling around we saw 6 black bears (there was a mother and three cubs at one place). I would however recommend taking a helicopter ride over the icefields even if it is the only thing you do, the view was unbelievably breathtaking one i wont be forgetting in a hurry. It cost $75 for 20 minutes which i know doesn't sound long but it really is worth the money. White water rafting down the bow river rapids was exhilarating to say the least (3+ rapids whatever that means!) i am the biggest wet nelly in the world but it was something i just had to do and eventhough i had the biggest WHAT AM I DOING! moments of my life and have NO intensions of EVER doing it again i am glad i did (but not as glad as i was that our raft was one of the few that didn't end up upside down) If you are an adrenaline junky or just plain mad this is definatley worth doing, oh my husband says the tombstoning at the end was fun although i didn't enjoy waiting for him to come to the surface. There are plenty of beautiful lakes to see and picnic at the ones we particularly liked were lake Minewanker (just outside Banff) definately something to see, Lake Morrain which is small but very picturesque and of course Lake Louise which is gorgeous but i am glad we didn't stay there as it was VERY crowded and apart from hotels and a handful of shops there is nothing else we met quite a few people who felt the same.We also stayed at Jasper, Kamloops, Whistler, Victoria and Vancouver all of which i hope to add reviews for as well as some photos. The last thing i have to say is that i hope you enjoy your visit to Canada as much as we did. I hope i've helped a little.

The location and surroundings were great. Convenience store across the street, swimming pool and barbecue site available.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom with loft chalet. We could hear our neighbors like they were in our suite. The kitchen/eating/living area was tiny, and the furnishings were rustic. I thought it was poor value for the price ($314/night including tax).

Suite was reasonably clean.

We won't go there again.

We spent a weekend in one of the executive suites at Tunnel Mountain, and I must say the room was fabulous. We had a large flat screen tv and gas fireplace in our room. The furnishings are high end - leather couch, marble topped tables, king sized bed. The room was impeccably clean. The bathroom was outstanding - jetted single tub, walk in shower stall and steam room, heated tile floors. It was heaven!

The room also came equipped with a small fridge and microwave, coffee maker, cork screw and wine glasses, in-room safe, binoculars for wildlife viewing from our private patio, hair dryer, and even a copy of Graeme Pole's hiking guide for Banff National Park. They really thought of everything.

Our room was extremely quiet and the bed was so comfy. Front desk staff were very friendly and accomodating.

I would not hesitate to stay here again!

We had a very nice room with a large flat screen TV, a fire place, and a nice view from the room of the mountain and a really comfortable king size bed. Across the road was a convient store and a liquer store which was very handy. We found the staff very courtious and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed the place much more than we expected.

The hotel was easy to find. We stayed in an executive suite and had a great view of the mountains. Our balcony was warm enough to sit out on in my bathing suit! The front desk staff were excellent. Our room was very clean and any thing we asked for such as more wine glasses, cork screw, ect was delivered very quickly. The steam room in our bathroom was awesome. Our room was quiet even though we faced the street coming up the mountain. It was great having a liquor store and grocery store across the street. Would stay here whenever I go to Banff.
