Banff Aspen Lodge was the first of our stops on a two week journey across Canada's Rockies. Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived but the place was so welcoming. The staff were pleasant and helpful, unfortunately our keycard would not work so we had to have it reprogrammed. The room was good and the bed comfortable. Our group also had the use of a meeting room on the top floor which was useful. Breakfast was in the basement which was warm and cosy with a good hearty breakfast. There were hot tubs (more like small swimming pools) in the centre of the courtyard but we did not use them. There were others who did and enjoyed the experience.

I booked this hotel with their mid week special and it was a great deal! Since we were taking the Greyhound bus, I wanted to find a hotel that was relatively close. This hotel was easy to get to and within a 10 minute walk. We were checked in by a friendly girl and provided our room keys. We stayed on the second floor and had to go to through a door to outside to get to our room. The keys didn't work the first time so I went downstairs and all was good.

We were pleased with the room layout. There was a bed when you first walk in and then 2 sinks on your way to the other bed and balcony. The toilet and tub were just off by the sinks. This is great for 2 people as it feels they each have their own room with bed and tv. I was hoping for a better view as I asked on the reservation form but it was still decent of Banff Ave and mountains.

It was a little noisy in the night when trying to sleep from the hum of the fridge (although they offer to unplug it if guests want), voices from neighbouring rooms, and the train. It can get a little warm and you can open the balcony door but the noise level will increase so that was the only complaint.

As others have mentioned, the breakfast is lovely. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee/tea/juice, the granola was amazing, and oatmeal and fruit were all good. But the highlight of this hotel, are the hot tubs. We used the one that had the fireplace but couldn't figure out how to turn on the jets. There was a person in the larger tub and he came over to ask us if we wanted the jets turned on as the control was by his tub. It would have been nice to have the control by our tub. But relaxing and warm water, loved it! It's not private as many guests would walk by to get to their rooms. There's also a sauna by the tubs.

Location is great and everything was within walking distance. Friendly staff and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room that's higher up on the 3rd floor. Facing Banff Ave is a little noisy.

This was ok for the price. The staff could not answer questions about the area, we feel they should be more familiar with the attractions and directions. Gave us a map and suggested we go to the visitor center. Room was ok, parking was a little strange because the underground parking was always full and the outdoor parking was very tight spots. We were only here one night, so it was ok. The sink was in the room, outside of the bathroom, which seemed strange, but ok This hotel was close to walk to restaurants and shops. The best part was the breakfast. It was in the basement, but very good selections. They had someone gets your drinks for you and you served yourself the food. Nice breads and home baked muffins and cakes. Very fancy toaster to toast your bread. Fresh made hot oatmeal available. It was one of the best free hotel breakfasts we had on our whole trip through the Rockies.

Thank you for sharing your Banff Aspen Lodge experience. I have passed your feedback onto the hotel’s Front Office Manager to review with his team, as you are correct; our staff should definitely be able to answer questions about the Banff area. I apologize for this inconvenience.
I am happy to read that the hotel’s complimentary continental breakfast was among the best that you experienced on your trip; I will let our Breakfast Room know this!
Sincerely,
Christy – Business Development Manager

How you feel about this hotel, depends on what you feel you need in Banff .... one of the world's great destinations. If you are realistic, and know that in all likelyhood, you will spend very little time in your hotel ,... then it will meet your basic needs. True, we did not get the room config we requested, but the price was reasonable, the staff was excellent, and it was a few steps from the heart of town. But ... if you plan to spend much time in your room, you will find it lacking for space , with NO decent chairs, and old CRT non HD Televisions. The breakfast was OK as well. Set realistic expectations

Room Tip: If you make a reservation on line, check back often to see if there are specials before you go. We did just that and saved nearly $50 per night

Thank you for your feedback. If looking for a spacious hotel room in Banff, I recommend reserving our Premium Room. This room type has a variety of bedding configurations that can accommodate a lot of different needs and includes a table and two chairs, along with a balcony /patio. Our complimentary continental breakfast is in the process of being upgraded; it will soon include bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs one day and cold meat and cheese the next. This will rotate daily. I hope you enjoyed your time in Banff National Park!
Sincerely,
Christy – Business Development Manager

Stayed for a couple of nights and found this hotel suited our needs very well. Check in staff very helpful and friendly. The rooms were large and comfy and well appointed.Internet was free and worked well.Breakfast was very good. There is parking out the back and some undercover secure parking as well. Location was excellent. There is construction work going on at the moment, it didnt bother us but if you need a nap in the middle of the day stay somewhere else.Overall we found it to be a very pleasant stay.
