We stayed at the hotel a total of 15 nights and had no problems at all. Our room was on the second floor at the front on a side road. This was a very quiet room with a nice view of a couple of mountains. Yes we could hear the train horns, but I think you can hear these everywhere in Banff as they needs to keep wildlife off the tracks. The room was confortable and spacious, our room had one queen bed. Good size balcony. Breakfast was fantastic, lovely choice of fresh fruit - the best ad gave found in a long time. Plus nice selection of cereals and fresh breads / cakes each day. Despite the hot weather our room was fine without air conditioning and we did not need the door open at night. A mosquito free zone in the room due to the door guard too. We liked the Eco awareness of the hotel and made the most of it. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Very pleasant staff all round, cleaners, breakfast staff and people on the front desk.

Thank you for staying at the hotel and telling your story on TripAdvisor! I’m glad the Banff Aspen Lodge was able to be your home away from home while visiting Banff National Park. We do our best at the hotel to be environmental conscious and appreciate your positive feedback.

Booked this 1 wk in advance. Got a room on the 1st floor beside the hot tubs on the street side.
Booked what I thought was a room that was listed as '2 queen beds" and got a room that was 1 queen and 2 doubles. The room was nicely laid out with 2 doubles in the front, bathroom in the middle and the queen in the rear. Big room. No A/C in the room and booked knowing that. (Lots of reviews are unaware of that and I find that surprising!). The room was still a little warm and the 2 fans provided were noisy and not of much help. Opening the screen door to the street was somewhat effective but the noise got to be a little bit much. My SO was blow-drying her hair and the fuse in the room blew but it was quickly taken care of by the staff there. Went down for breakfast and the room was full so had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. Breakfast was continental (toast, muffins, fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal)and adequate. Would want a room with A/C next time in Banff if I stayed in the summer.
Wished the hot tub was open longer(closed @ 10) but I know that helped keep the area in front of our room quiet.

The hotel is located one block from the main activities in downtown in the main street. The personal are very helpful and kind. The room is OK. They have a small library which you can pick up or leave your book, it's surprising for us and very creative. Problems: (1) the room was outside the main building and therefore each time we open the door, there they come, the mosquitos. (2) The breakfast, included, does not have to much options for those who are used to have variety. And some kind of strange cakes. (3) Parking lot, included, does not have place to all guests, if you get lucky or get there early, probably you will have. In our case, with the sunset around 11pm, that's the time we arrived in our 4 days stay, we couldn't have a parking space any day, we parked at the street.

We just spent five glorious nights at the Banff Aspen Lodge. From the outside, the hotel is a little dated but the rooms are updated, attractive and spacious. The beds and linens were comfy and there was lots of seating and storage. We had a good sized TV with lots of stations, a mini fridge and a fan to cool us off in the early evening (a/c is not typical in Banff). Our room was overlooking an interior courtyard and was very quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed the two hot tubs along with the gas fireplace in the courtyard each night. There was also a sauna and a steam room which we did not use but they looked clean and well kept. We particularly enjoyed the continental breakfast each morning, especially their 'famous' home-made granola which many locals talked to us about. There was a nice selection of fresh fruit, baking, breads, cereal, granola, juices, etc. The menu varied every day with extras like oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, etc. We were a few long blocks from the main part of town - close enough to be handy but far enough away to be quiet. The grocery store was just around the corner and we picked up a few supplies for our room. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I would sincerely recommend this hotel to anyone staying for business or pleasure.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Banff Avenue side for more quiet.

We were able to find a deal where the 3rd night was free - this increased the value substantially. The rooms were clean and hot tub/sauna area very enjoyable. However, the elevator was a bit small and the wireless internet was slow at best. The free breakfast was a nice touch but was less than satiating to some in the group. The location was great - one block from the start of the sights and sounds of Banff Ave. There was also plenty of on-street parking available. Overall, I would say do not dodge this lodge.

Thank you for your review. The hotel’s outdoor hot tubs with fireplace, steam room and sauna are perfect for guests looking to unwind on their holiday and I am happy you enjoyed them. The hotel’s elevator is a standard size; it can accommodate up to nine people. Our complimentary continental breakfast includes fresh pastries, bread, yogurt, fruit salad, cereals and our homemade granola. If looking for a hot breakfast, many full-serve restaurants are located within a four minute walk of the hotel. I hope you enjoyed your time in Banff National Park!

We spent four very frustrating days here.  The Internet is an important part of modern life and a good connection is essential to us.  Sadly the WiFi at this hotel is then worst I have ever experienced.  When it did work, it was unbelievably slow, and there were many times when there was no service at all.  We ended up eating a couple of times at the international hotel just down the road, they gave me a code to use their wifi which was very fast!

I complained several times at reception and was told conflicting stories of what the problem was....  I was also told no one else had complained...  Not true.  I was also told by a guest that he had been there several days before me and that it was the same when he arrived...  So it looks seems its been like it a while...

On the up side, it's relatively cheap for Banff, the hot tubs are nice, the rooms are clean and a reasonable size.  Breakfast was good for me, fresh breads, cereals, fresh fruit and the coffee was good.  No meats or cheeses if that's your thing though... Service at breakfast could also be a bit slow...

On the down side...  No safety deposit boxes, no air con, the fan they supplied was as much use as three mosquitoes flapping their wings, and very noisy!  Trains go by in the night and toot their horns, you couldn't have the fridge on as it was noisy, and as there is no air con you need the patio doors open!

Room Tip: Difficult... Rooms on the front are noisy, but there again the rear are not much better!

Thank you for staying at the Banff Aspen Lodge. The hotel is currently looking into a new Internet provider for our guest wireless Internet, as we understand how important the Internet is to some travelers. Safety deposit boxes are currently located at our Front Desk and by the end of 2012; they will be located in all guestrooms. The trains do honk their horns to warn any animals on the train tracks of their approach; this helps to ensure any animals on the train tracks move a safe distance away.

I am happy to read that you enjoyed the hotel’s complimentary continental breakfast and our two outdoor hot tubes with fireplace. I hope you enjoyed your time in Banff National Park.

We were really pleased with our room - the layout with the beds separated by the bathroom is ideal for families and increases privacy. Great to have a fridge in the room. Our room also had a large balcony with a mosquito screen and good views of Banff and over to Sulphur Mountain.
The hotel is within walking distance of all Banff's attractions. The breakfast is very good and the waiting staff really helpful and friendly.
It is rather unfair of people to criticise the hotel for a lack of air conditioning when the hotel makes no claims to have air conditioning! It is always helpful to read up on where you are planning to stay before booking. We felt the hotel more than met our expectations.
