Good Points - Large, clean and quiet rooms with great views. Modern bathroom. Self serve laundry facilities. Short walk to centre of town. Great and very friendly staff.

Bad Points - None that we can think of

As part of Canadian tour, we'd pre-booked at this hotel one night then two further nights later in the same week. The first night we were allocated room 110 which is on the ground floor at the front of the building some 10 feet from the main road outside, hence traffic noise and shouts from predestrians on the pavement (sorry, sidewalk) were a constant disturbance until the small hours. Access to the room was along a tiled (not carpeted) corridor whish is the main route to the hotel's lift - directly opposite the bedroom door. Guests coming and going throughout the night were clearly unaware that there was a guest room along that corridor as they clattered, shouted and laughed their way back to their own rooms.
As soon as we realised that we would experience problems with this room, we asked the receptionist for an alternative room as our original booking had included a request for a quiet room. She apologised but said that the hotel was full that night and no other rooms were available.
The following morning ( after a completely sleepless night) we complained to the manager Shawn who was extremely contrite and said that they only check guests into that room as a last resort as they are aware that it is unreasonably noisey. ( He couldn't give us a logical expanation as to why we had drawn this short straw in spite of our booking having been made quite a few months earlier.) However, he did promise that when we returned later that week for our 2 night stay in Banff, that we would be offered a much better room with a compimentary bottle of wine.
Thankfully this second stay at Aspen Lodge was much better and we were able to thank the staff for their attention and service as we checked out.
So- overall this is a good hotel. The majority of rooms are well equipped and comfortable and especially if you have a room on an upper floor at the back, you can expect a comfortable stay and a good night's sleep. A very pleasant continental breakfast is included in the price you pay as well, which is a bonus.
My advice to travellers is definitely to consider this hotel but stress at the time of booking that you do not want room 110.
My advice to the hotel's managers is this: Close off room 110. Use it as office space or for storage. It is certainly not fit for purpose as a guest bedroom. If all the other rooms are full, do not be tempted to make a swift buck by squeezing in an extra couple of guests by placing them in room 110. It isn't worth the adverse publiciy!

Room Tip: Stress that you will not accept room 110!

Thank you for your review. As our Front Office Manager explained, room 110 is used when the hotel is at full occupancy and the hotel was sold out during your first visit. I apologize that you did not enjoy the room. I am pleased that we were able to host you again later in the week and that you enjoyed your stay and bottle of wine!
Sincerely,
Christy – Sales Manager

Couple, early sixties, stayed here for two nights as part of a Canadian tour. Hotel overall was of a very good standard - better than I expected - and is what I would call a holiday hotel. our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking some other apartments - rooms at the front have a better view. our room was in the main block of the hotel and was of a very high standard - again much better than I expected for 'a lodge', they was spotlessly clean and well maintained. great location for exploring the town - five minutes walk to shops and restaurants. outdoor hot tubs are a great idea. take-one leave-one 'library' of guests' reading books on each floor - great idea. there are many restaurants and bars nearby (the Keg, 10/10 again). continental breakfast was included and that was more than adequate to start our day. Staff were always very helpful. Overall a very good hotel in a good location. we'd certainly stay there again if we ever tour Canada again.

Room Tip: get a room at the front - they have better views

Thank you for sharing your story; I’m happy to read that the hotel exceeded your expectations! Our central location, outdoor hot tubs (with fireplace) and complimentary continental breakfast are some of the hotel’s main selling features.
The Banff Aspen Lodge is an Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association 2012 Housekeeping Award Winner and we are incredibly proud of this achievement.
Hope to see you again!

Stayed here for one night only in July. The room we had (#125) was VERY SMALL. The bathroom had a nice shower, a pedestal sink and toilet. No room to put anything or turn around! It was really kind of annoying. The place was clean and I guess that is more important. I would stay again IF I was assured of a bigger room. I'm not too sure that was to be our room. We got there early before it was ready and the girl at the desk I thought said we'd be on the second floor. When we returned later in the day another girl assigned us to room 125 on the ground floor. At any rate, be advised to make sure you don't get the tiny room. It would maybe be OK for one person.
Parking might be a problem here. The night we stayed there was a tour buss that accounted for people so that many didn't need a parking space. However, if more people drove cars, it might be difficult to park. Most of the hotels in Banff looked about the same when it came to parking. Something to check on if you are considering Banff lodging.

Room Tip: I had to choose POOR for room rating because of the size. Be sure to ask for a room NOT like #125!

Thank you for your feedback. Room 125 is one of the hotel’s Economy Rooms; there are four in total and they are our smallest room category. The Economy Room is perfect if staying at the hotel for one night and plan on spending most of your time outside of the hotel, exploring Banff National Park.
I have reviewed your reservation and you did choose our Economy Room at time of booking; the hotel didn’t change your room type upon arrival. The Economy Rooms are all located on our first floor, near our two outdoor hot tubs with fireplace.
If looking for a larger guestroom, please reserve one of our Superior or Premium Rooms. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you on your next Banff visit!

This is an excellent boutique-style hotel. It is clean and modern, with efficient use of space. It has a lot of nice amenities including two outdoor jacuzzi pools, rooms with decks, and free breakfast. Service was excellent, especially for a relatively small hotel. The only reason it is not 5/5 across the board is that the location does not have the advantages of being right in the center of town (although quite close) nor unobstructed views of the mountains. Nevertheless, I would stay here again.
