“Very Nice!”
Reviewed January 20, 2008

This hotel was out of our normal 'price category' but we got a really good deal; usually when we stay in a 5-star resort I tend to feel insecure and feel that the staff treats us different when we don't drive in with our BMW and Prada jackets... not the case here, everyone was friendly and really accomodating to our kids. Room was awesome, excellent beds, large bathroom and a beautiful view of the mountains and the skating rink. The pool area and change rooms were very nice as well - clean and lots of amenities. The hotel itself was beautiful with nice retail and some high-end restaurant options (too high end for us!). I don't like when any hotel charges extra for use of the gym... they put it there, let the visitors use it! The rink was so much fun, wish I had known it was there before we went so we could have used our own skates. We requested a playpen and it wasn't in our room when we arrived, I called housekeeping and it was brought to us with a few minutes and she even offered to set it up!! All in all, a great stay... but not worth the full price :)

Stayed at the rimrock between dec 22 and dec 30 2007. We had a wonderful stay at the rimrock, fantastic hotel. Last time in Banff we stayed at the Fairmont ,and i must say, this time we were looked after a lot better at the Rimrock. It is a bit further out of town than other Resorts but if you have a car or you dont mind the Shuttle bus its a superior option. We were given special treatment due to our Honeymoon, the concierge and staff went out of their way to welcome us and make us feel at home. The views from this hotel are superior to the Banff Springs and although pricey the dining was very good also. It is a short walk to the Cradel mtn Gondola, and the Hot springs and only a short drive into town. The hot stone massage is a wonderful treat also. This hotel has everything you'll need for a 4 star hotel and more. i would recomend it to anyone.

This is a beautiful hotel. I wish we had stayed for more than one night. We stayed in the middle of the week and were given a room on the top floor overlooking the mountains (although we booked the lowest price category room). We purchased a breakfast package and the breakfast was a wonderful buffet - with a great view. The service at this hotel is very good.

There is a jacuzzi tub in the room and we had a king size bed.

I would definately recommend this hotel.

Having enjoyed a fabulous skiing holiday to Canada in March 2007, my husband and I decided to combine the New Year festivities with our annual skiing holiday.

We chose the Rimrock for a number of reasons. Firstly, in March we stayed at the Farimont Chateau Lake Louise which is a fabulous hotel. We toyed with the idea of staying at the Banff Springs but thought this would again be repeating our stay in March. We therefore decided to try something different. As the only other luxurious alternative, we decided on the Rimrock.

The positives:

The views from the rooms are breathtaking
The food at the hotel (especially the Primrose) is good

The negatives:

1. One thing the hotel litrature does not tell you is that the travel time from the Hotel to the nearest ski resort ( Sunshine) is approximatley 1-2 hours. Once you collect your skiis from the ski valet you have to wait for the hotel bus to arrive. This bus then drops you off at another Hotels car park where you wait in the freezing cold for another bus to arrive. Sometimes we were waiting for the connecting bus for 30 mins which in such cold temperatures is very uncomfortable.

This proceedure is repeated on the return journey which after a hard day on the slopes becomes cumbersome to say the least.

2. The ski valeting service is backward. When dropping off your skis you have to wait at a side door to the hotel for the concierge to arrive. When they are not there you have to go back into the hotel to hunt them down. Again the last thing you want to do. When the attendant eventually arrives he takes 5 minutes completing a tag,

3. The pool and sauna area are dirty.

4. The staff in the hotel are un-friendly and miserable. This particulary applies to the staff that serve in the clothing and jewellry shops that are based in the hotel.

5. The bathrooms in the Hotel are tiny and need up-dating.

To conclude, whilst we enjoyed our skiing holiday, we found the Rimrock to be a disappointment. We would suggest that anyone considering Alberta for a skiing holiday should stay at the Chateau Lake Louise. Not only will you find the non-skiing time more restfull but you will feel as though you are staying in a hotel that justifies being advertised in the Luxurious section of the travel websites/brochures.

A lovely hotel which, although expensive, was worth it for the views. Our room was at the back of the hotel with lovely mountain views - well worth getting up in time to buy a coffee and croissant from the cafe and then sit in the armchairs in your room and watch the sun coming over the mountains. The lobby bar/restaurant was also an excellent place to sit with a beer/cocktail/food and watch the sun go down. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Minus points - I was paying enough for the hotel to think that another $10 a night to park (particularly when there is no other place to park) was excessive. No free internet access. It is a long uphill walk to get back from Banff town, although the hotel does have a regular free bus.

Overall - well worth it if you have a car, stay in Banff itself if you do not.

I was expecting great things from this hotel and was disappointed. The hotel is aiming upmarket, as an alternative to the Banff Springs, but misses the mark and just seems expensive. The hotel also seems to concentrate on conferences, so some areas, eg the lobby, are busy when they all arrive or depart at the same time.

The rooms and service are average for the class of hotel. The arrangement of the rooms and windows means that some rooms have limited privacy and having to keep a cutain closed defeats the object of a view of the valley

Being charged for self parking at the hotel when there is no alternative parking available is just exploitation.

The location is too far out of the centre of Banff for those without their own transport, although there is a curtesy bus at certain times.

If you go into town for a meal go to Earl's, but get there early (before 7pm) otherwise it is busy. They do the most fantastic ribs. Highly recommended!
