“Check for road construction before making reservation”
Reviewed November 10, 2007

We thought this would be the hotel with best view of downtown due to its central location. It is located in the center of the town, what we did not know is the main road where the hotel located is completely
demolished due to major construction and closed for traffic. People are still able to walk the sideways and stores are open for business, but the view obviously does not look the one pictured in website. Construction vehicles and dust are everywhere and the construction itself has been ongoing since May 2007 when we arrived in August 2007.
It would be unfair to not let people know that hotel view and physical
condition does not look the same anymore from the picture but charging
the same rate as if everything is still the same. I guess we were still lucky since we stayed two nights during the weekends when the road work is off. We could not imagine how awful the noise and the dust could be when the road construction is at work !!! So, one more lesson to learn, CALL THE HOTEL FOR ANY CONSTRUCTION (EVEN ROAD CONSTRUCTION) BEFORE MAKING RESERVATION..!!

We spent 3 nights in late September. Our room overlooked Banff Avenue where road works have been taking place all summer. They start at 6am and did disturb us a little. It will be much better when they have finished (this year?).
Our room was a good size and well furnished. It had aircon, a safe and a kettle (essential for tea drinkers from the UK). The hotel also had a internet computer which could be used for a small charge.
The restaurant was disappointing. There were two sections, one for guests with breakfast included and one for the rest. They could not cope with the number of people wanting to eat. We gave up waiting and went to Melissa's which other reviewers had recommended. If you want a great breakfast that is the place to go.

We were travelling with Titan Tours from Vancover to Calgary staying three nights in the Royal Mount Hotel. From the outside and the entrance it all looked very impresive. We were very dissapointed with the standard of the Hotel bedroom. The carpets were dirty and stained in several places. We also found the breakfast area to be very badly organised with bread for toast still in bread bags, coffee and tea not clearly marked, the overall experiance was not what you would expect from a Hotel resturant area. One was given the impression that the Hotel was not very well managed.

Hello to all our past and future guests.
It has been a bit of a difficult summer for our team and guests with all of the construction directly in front of the hotel. The dust seemed to get into everything resulting a variety of issues with everything from our electronics to excessive carpet soiling.
We are now into our slow season and our housekeeping and maintenance teams have already started a major deep cleaning program to get the ol' girl back up to snuff. I am being told that the road is to be paved by Oct 20th and so we will get things back into shape ASAP.
Thank you all for your understanding and continued support.
ps-the new downtown is really really impressive and I humbly think that it will be worth all the trouble to make Banff a more pedestrian-friendly experience!

We stayed at the Mount Royal Hotel for one night on 16 September 07 which just happened to be our 2nd wedding anniversary. Our travel agent mentioned this to the hotel.

When we got there (Sunday) the town was crazy, there was some festival or something going on and there was absolutely no where to park. We called the hotel and were greeted with friendly directions from the front desk to their rear car park.

Upon our arrival we were welcomed like old friends and advised that our room wasn't quite ready as we had been moved to the Presidential Suite to celebrate our anniversary. What a pleasant surprise, we were early to check in (1pm), so we returned at 2pm and entered our suite.

The presidential suite was enormous and elegant. The decor was older, but timelessly elegant. You would picture dignitaries staying there prior to the Fairmont being built. Some parts of the room were tired, but no complaints from us.

As a town, we preferred Jasper, we live in a tourist town (Cairns, Qld) and this was a bit too commercial for us, but this hotel stay was the best.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone who would listen.

We stayed here as part of a tour and it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
The housekeeper didn't even made out beds, she just threw the bedspread over wrinkled sheets and blanket. The hotel staff was even worse. The concierge was harder to spot than wildlife in the park: they were never at the desk when they were supposed to. The front desk personnel didn't know the answer to basic question such as "At what time does the local bank open?" or "Where is the bus stop?". Am I pretending too much here?!
The waiters at the restaurant Tony Roma (part of the hotel) were forgetful and the service slow. September 12th is towards the end of the season, if this is how they are when is not busy, imagine in July and August what kind of service you get!
Oh, and one more thing: local calls are not free. This one always gets me. Their phone company is not likely to charge them for it, so why charge me? Enough said... Never again.

We booked a standard room (2 queen beds) which was quite nice except for 2 minor issues: The surprised looking couple who were already occupying the room and had checked in a few moments prior. The second room smelled of cigarettes (non smoking hotel) When I told the desk staff of this, they gave me a free upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite (room 250) which was spacious and tastefully decorated. The desk staff was apologetic, friendly and motivated to make it right. Although the toilet and sink are in need of an update, the shower had wonderful high pressure water. It was the sort of water pressure which can wash off trail dust and travel funk. The location of the Hotel is perfect in downtown Banff, a few steps from multiple bars and restaurants.

Banff Avenue was under construction when we stayed, which took a bit away from the aesthetic, but that wasn’t exactly the fault of the hotel. If staying there before November, request a room NOT overlooking the street.

They changed the locks to a new non working system during our stay. We were told numerous times it would be fixed. I asked to speak to the General Manager and was told by the Front Office Manager, Jodie Bradley, “I’ll have him contact you.” He was very unapologetic and even seemed irritated by our asking what time we could expect to be able to enter our room without having an escort with a master key. When asked if we would be compensated for the day, the manager said no for a refund. He did however offer to upgrade us to the Hotel’s best room (Brewster Suite) for the remainder of our stay, sent us a bottle of wine and gave us a 2 complimentary passes to the gondola.

If you forget to bring your high speed internet cable (no wireless), you can buy one from Radio Shack for $6 (2 blocks away). The hotel will RENT one to you for $10 per day.

Great food; Balkan authentic Greek food terrific service (Demitri), and Nourish (Vegetarian), best Breakfast and Dinner Coyote’s. Don’t miss open mic night at Bruno’s.

We stayed here for two nights.

There was plenty of construction happening on the main street which should be done by the end of summer 2007. The building is quite stylish. The main elevator is too small.

Our room was clean, well appointed and had an unusually high domed ceiling. The downsides were that the comforters didn't feel that clean (a little musty) and the domed ceiling created an amplifying effect on the noise levels. It sounded like when the people were moving around upstairs that they were in your room.

The bathroom was small but it had a shower with a control that regulated the "flow" of the water and the temperature. Normally in hotels the control is only for temperature.

The major plus is that the hotel is in the center of town with easy access to restaurants, stores and recreational areas.
