“Inns & Outs of Inns of Banff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2007

We have stayed at 6 or 7 Banff Hotels over the years. This year we travelled with friends who have 3 children & the only hotels that could do a 3 x double bedded room were the Inns of Banff & Banff Inn. The reception/lounge is rather small & is tiled & not that welcoming. As mentioned by previous reporters, the carpets in the corridors are very tired & worn. I can see why they're not changed though, as it would cost a small fortune as there are miles and miles of corridors. The place is a lot bigger than it looks & is built in 3 or 4 rows of buildings, each one further back & further up the hill. So to get from reception to your room you have to go up the lift to the top floor then cross the walkway & you're in the bottom of the next building. Up the lift, cross the walkway etc. etc. They gave us a map when we checked in ! Having said that you can park for free right under the rooms. The rooms are more than fine, very large & reasonably clean, with better views than you would get on the high street strip & quieter too as you are away from the road. The pool is far better than no pool but it is small relative to the size of the hotel but it is always empty as everyone seems to prefer to use the fabulous hot tub on the roof with fantastic views of cascade mountain. The whole place is in 70's / 80's decor & would be difficult to change even with a massive refurbishment as the infrastructure itself is in that timeframe. This is no more prevalent than in the food outlets. The Bear's den pub was excellent for informal casual fare with several kids in the evening but the breakfast in reflections was dissapointing to say the least. Full buffet is $14 and doesn't include fruit (unless you mean an apple or orange from the bowl) Far better to go up the road 3 hotels on the opposite side & you will find the Caribou Lodge. The Breakfast & the decor & the fruit ! are in a completely different league - and it will cost you $1 less !! even though it is owned by the same company. All in all the Inns of Banff was absolutely fine but it is not as good as the high standard set by the other hotels that we have stayed in.

Thank-you for the hospitality. Our room was perfect size for our family of 5 and the view was breathtaking. The staff was kind, courteous and prompt. It was refreshing coming back from sking to see a very clean room with plenty of fresh towels. I love the reno's on the hot tub since our last visit. Looking forward to staying again. From the Laz family!!!!

I always like to give positive feedback when I enjoy my stay. My family and I are repeat customers at the Inns of Banff and we will continue to be because we are really treated well and enjoy the way we feel when we are at your hotel. We look forward to returning in the near future. Keep up the great work. mek

My family and I booked a room for a ski weekend in early February. I had heard that the outdoor hot tub at this hotel was fabulous and that the hotel was basic but clean, so we decided to try it.
Upon checking in, we were directed to an older building adjacent to the Inns of Banff, which is apparently owned by the same hotel group. After carrying our luggage and ski gear up a flight of stairs(no elevator), we found our (non-smoking?)room reeking of old smoke and mustiness. I sat on the bed to evaluate the smell, and noticed many dark hairs embedded in the top sheet of the bed, which was folded back over the duvet. These features, along with dried white material on the bathroom counter, sent my husband back to the front desk to request a different room.
My husband returned, saying the hotel (and Banff) was completely booked and they had only one other room available; a room with no window, only a skylight. He assured me that it at least smelled clean, so we moved over to the new room. We were right across the hall from a fire exit, so we assumed that although disquieting , the windowless room must be legal.
The next morning we started to make coffee in the in-room coffee maker. Rather unfortunately, the carafe was still full of a previous guest's beverage, and our desire for coffee disappeared. Returning from a great day of skiing at Sunshine Village, we found our room uncleaned. After a phone call, housekeeping arrived, assuring us it wasn't too inconvenient for them to clean our room and bring towels. This property seems to need more cleaning staff, and better management.

I do agree that the hotel is a little tired, it could do with some redecoration but I think that it is great value for the money. My room was clean, it could do with more lighting as they tend to be very dark rooms and the shower needs more pressure. It took about 45mins to run a bath.
You do get a great coffee maker in the room a small fridge and kettle.
The staff were great and very friendly which I really enjoyed. The wildfire menu is a little bit like a hungry horse but venture out into banff for some amazing meals. I did try the Japanese restaurant Miki located in the hotel but found the menu very confusing with no explanation from the staff on that. The amazing bonus is that this is the first stop on the ski bus so you never have to worry about not enough room etc and at the end of the day the ski bus stops at the hotel first so you can race straight to the amazing outdoor whirlpool!
The bar staff were great and its a lovely relaxing place! I definatly would go back!

Well, this hotel is very poor indeed. I have stayed at many places in Banff, and the inns of banff is not up to scratch.

The hotel in general needs a total refurb, carperts, resturants, etc. The room. Bathroom is dirty, old, moldy, the shower pressure was weak, it took an age to wash your hair. The carpert in the room was turned up and if you stood on a certain part you would get the part which holds the carpert down in your foot. The room was very dark, even with the lights on. The bed sunk in the middle, the mattrass was poor, the room was wet (damp) because of the a/c. The equipment in the room did not either work, or was not up to the standard for a basic hotel. Dont stay here.

To top it off I saw alot of mice in certain parts of the hotel, I addressed this to the hotel staff, who attitude was basically, what do you expect????!!!!

Dont stay here, there are better places in Banff, this is a hotel is a let down for the beautiful town of Banff.

Poor.

we stayed for New Year and early Jan. a good value hotel, needs a little refreshing here and there as per previous comments - but generally OK and we were absolutely delighted with the staff, particularily the reception team. We had a leak in our ceiling due to much snow on the roof above, not their fault - and were delighted at how promptly and proactively the reception team dealt with our problem - moving us quickly to another room and taking time to check all was OK. They couldnt have handled our complaint any quicker or better - i would recommend to stay here - good for its price range.
