“Misleading Hotel information, unfriendly staff, noisy”
Reviewed May 15, 2010

I was very disappointed of this hotel. We chose to book the more expensive Loft Fireplace Suite for the guaranteed mountain view as the standard rooms couldn’t guarantee it. We shouldn’t have bothered. The mountain view could only be seen from standing outside our room or getting on our knees in the loft bedroom. Also, no where, on Expedia or on their website mentions there is outdoor access to the rooms. This made it very noisy when people were coming and going and they were at all hours of the day and night. The walls are paper thin so you heard everyone moving around inside their rooms and having normal conversations. The front reception staff were not particularly friendly. The housekeeping staff were very nice although they would call out across the walkways to talk to each other during the day which was quite disturbing.

The room was nicely furnished, the bed was comfortable but a bit short and the bathroom spacious. It is nice to be in a place with a freestanding shower (not being in a combined shower/bath).

The internet, albeit free, was painfully slow.

Thankfully we got a good deal on Expedia but still, I wouldn’t spend that sort of money to stay here again.

I am a very ""picky"" customer when it comes to hotels,
I want/need a hotel that provides a clean bathroom, bedroom, ect ect just like i have in my home, hahahahaha my hubby n kidds would tell you how clean i am.
I worry every time i book a holiday (even though we go 4 star) of what the room is going to be like and how clean it will be.

""SO"" what i am trying to say we loooooooove this hotel for lots of reasons, we go to banff every year, and have stayed in lots of hotels, including the "fairmont" n yes that was brill, BUT the charlton as much more fond memories for us all,n we cant wait to go again

We stayed here last year for 4 days and the room was deluxe for a standard rate through Expedia. Thinking we would get the same thing we booked it again through Expedia. It was hard to believe we were in the same hotel.

It was okay but definitely not the deluxe room we got the time before. Overall we have decided to not stay here again. We were apparently upgraded to a kitchenette -- it has two bedrooms one on either side of the kitchen area, and across from the kitchen is the bathroom sink area (outside the toilet/shower). One bedroom has a door and a tv; the other doesn't; no bathtub. Smeared brown matter on curtain. There are two entrances to the suite from outside; one on each bedroom. When I asked to be "downgraded"" to a non-kitchenette suite they said they couldn't do it and that I had to accept whatever was given because I had booked through Expedia. A big disappointment and had to sleep with my husband on two singles because my 12 year old daughter was two "creeped" out to sleep in the room with her friend.

We stayed for one night in a standard double (2 Queen beds) and were very pleased upon check-in. Having stayed here two years ago, it was noticeable that things were freshened up, especially around the pool and steam room area. Found a great deal through the Enjoy Banff site though cancellations/changes are non-refundable. The room was extremely comfortable, not overly small like others in Banff, and contained a mini fridge, coffee maker and tea kettle. The fridge is especially nice to have, winter or summer. The heated tile in the entry way and bathroom was very nice after walking all over Banff. Although it's possible to walk to where the shops are, it is easier to drive or take the free shuttle. The weather was cool and the walk was refreshing, but maybe not for everyone. The beds and bedding were of excellent quality and the decor was very tasteful, including the decorative lamps. It felt like a home away from home and everything worked well. The bathroom was especially worth noting with granite counters, separate shower and deep soaker tub and top quality toiletries. Nice terry robes for going to the pool or lounging around. The high speed internet worked well and the free parking was a plus. Some minor noise was faintly heard but we were not bothered by it and we stayed on a Friday night. Was expecting a lot of noise, especially considering some of the other reviews. The overall service, level of comfort and value are pretty hard to match in Banff. A complimentary continental breakfast wasn't important to us but a quiet, comfortable stay was. Give it a try!

From the moment we arrived the staff were helpful, they were able to provide directions, information about bus times and other general information about the town, nothing we asked seemed to be too much trouble.

We stayed in a loft suite and found the space to be more than ample. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was lovely as well, always a bonus on holiday!

We made use of the pool, steam room and hot tub in the hotel, very welcome after a day out in the cold.

Definitely very good value for the price

We stayed here for 2 nights in December for a pre-Christmas getaway. We stayed in a loft room with a fireplace. We enjoyed having wine and cheese in front of the fireplace. It was very quiet on the first night and we enjoyed walking into the Village. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we would stay in the loft rooms again. The king size bed was very comfie. The morning we left it was very noisy as the staff cleaned, quite a bit of banging and clanging. The location was beautifully breathtaking. We had dinner at the Maple Grill (I think) exceptional food, great wine list.

We choose this hotel for it's location, swimmingpool, and the good reviews it had. Also because they offer a 2 bedroom suite with kitchenette, wich seemed very convenient since we were traveling w 2 kids, ages 8 and 12. We came to spend the Christmas days in Banff, and booked for 6 days at Charlton's. We arrived around 0600PM at the reception .Very small area, almost no christmas decoration, no athmosphere what so ever)
They had everything ready for us, gave us a map (!) to find our room ourselves, and we had to drag all our bagages to the very small elevator. Although we requested a quiet location, our room was located next to that same elevator. The only good things to say about the room was that it was clean, and had a good and powerfull shower.....The kitchenette was well equiped and clean, but very small. The small table for 4 was placed
against one wall- to seat the fourth person you had to drag it from the wall, and than you cannot move around in the kitchen anymore...The bathroom was very small, a shower and a toilet squeezed into one little room. The washbasin was more or less placed in the kitchen. Also there was hardly any space for your clothes/suitcases. The two bedrooms were dark and very back dated. The beds had the thinnest fleece blankets that I have ever seen. The parental bedroom was very small, you could just walk around the bed. But it did have a chest with 3 drawers. The childrens bedroom, with 2 single beds , had a strange lay-out; There were 2 big chairs in it, and also a chest with drawers. Only the drawers could not open, since the chest was placed against one of the beds. On that chest was placed a very old television. You couldnt watch the television from out of bed or from....anywhere . Beside all this, the room was extremely noisy. We woke up in the middle of the night when someone came out of the elevator. This turned out to be our neighbour- we could letterly hear everything he was saying in the room next to us. And he was not shouting at all or anything. We also could hear the passing trains whistle all night- we all slept very bad.....
After this one night we booked out, to save our holiday, and moved to a neighbour hotel. Overthere we had a lovely time. Maybe Caribou has other, nicer rooms ( as shown on their website, with green sheets etc.) , but this was not it!!!!So donot book a kitchenette suite!!!The good thing was they let us go without a penalty, after some discussion with the manager in charge.
