“Very poor quality overall”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2010

The greeting was a wait for approx 5 minutes at the desk , after a price way to high for this type of hotel , the internet connection is slow i mean slow, very poor bath , and for the price you pay the " CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST " is a VERY POOR ONE .

We were expecting to have to pay a fortune to stay in Banff, but there are some reasonable options for accomodation. This one was very pleasant at a reasonable rate and we stayed 3 nights. ($116 a night including tax and a buffet breakfast.) Parking was available below the hotel and was convenient and reasonably secure. The room was spacious clean and comfortable.

And it doesn’t get better. We were just passing through Banff and were looking for a cheap hotel for one evening. This hotel wasn’t worth the few dollars we saved.

There were quite a few unpleasant folks loitering around the front entrance of the hotel when we arrived. There is a tacky saloon on the main floor. The patrons of this establishment use the front of the hotel as their smoking area. The liquor store on the main floor also draws in a rather unpleasant clientele.

The hotel itself is old, worn, smelly and not terribly clean. There are no elevators, no air conditioning and no air handling system to move around the humid smelly air. Our non smoking room had a distinct odder of cigarette smoke and a multitude of cigarette burns in the carpeting, the furniture and the upholstery.

The only aspect of this establishment that didn’t totally disappoint was the complimentary wireless internet. I used it to post this review. Spend $10 a night more and stay at on of the better hotels down the street.

This was the worst hotel we had during our Holidays in Canada and the USA. The hotel is very old fashioned and looks miserable. The rooms were small with a dirty carpet. Breakfast was very minimal and the waitress (very young lady) was vey brutal. The hotel has no elevator (?!) and the beds were not sufficient to be used by two persons. In that case they act more like a roller coaster. I will never go there again.

We arrived at the inn from Banff's main street so we passed lots of nice looking hotels on the way and had a shock when we came to the last one and realized this ugly looking building was ours. Room was only decent for one night with two queen beds, unfortunately this was our last night in Canada and it left a bitter taste as we expected a more modern and inviting place.
Our bedroom window faced a wall! Breakfast room was like a canteen and breakfast was minimal. Getting to the pool area was pretty depressing, it was a long way through the basement and we felt like running away, although the pool itself seemed decent, but we got too put off to even try it. No elevator so you have to drag your luggage up a giant staircase.
It is nothing more than a 70s soviet style motel, with prices of a hotel (we paid 140 CAD), such a motel would cost 70USD! in the US. We have learnt that Canada is very expensive, more than we thought , especially in touristic places like Banff and Lake Louise, where it seems that 200 dollars is what you should pay to get something called nice.

Banff is an expensive area, so we were happy to find the Voyager Inn. It's located at the north end of town, away from the busy town center, but still within walking distance if you want to stroll the shops. The location does allow for a quick exit to destinations in Banff National Park. The room was fine - two queen beds, TV, wi-fi, phone, coffeemaker. No microwave or refrigerator. No AC, but we didn't need it during our stay in July. No elevator and it's a lot of steps up from the parking lot to your room. Parking is tight. It's on each side of the building, mostly covered, but two cars have to park in a space between columns holding up the building making it hard to maneuver into and out of the space. There is a breakfast included - yogurt, cereal, muffins, toast and coffee - starts at 7 am. They do have an annoying policy of putting a hold of $50 per person on your credit card for "incidentals" when you check in. Not very trusting I suppose. There's a pool and a hot tub if you want to use them. Some of the rooms may have a view of a brick wall so ask when you check in.

This hotel is an older hotel but it is pretty decent hotel. Probably they offer the best price in Banff .Basic rooms with two doubles and balcony. I believe they have some suites too but did not stay in one. The hotel has a liquor store on site and a lounge. They do have a steam room a Jacuzzi and an outdoor swimming pool with warm water open year around. The location is not so great right at the east entrance of Banff but since this is not such big town it is just 15 minutes walk to the center. Good value for the money.
