Highly recommend the Welcome to the Family Special for families with children. This resort is very child-friendly, cozy and clean. Also very nice to be away from the commercialized "tourist-y" town of Banff but close enough to access all the activities. Looking forward to staying here again.

We enjoyed the location, just outside the town with a very convenient shuttle service every hour from 11am. The facilities were very good; the pool was warm and clean. Good size fitness room. We had a one bedroom unit facing the road, however we did not hear the traffic. Lovely having the squirrels wandering about. Newly refurbished, comfortable rooms. We did, however have trouble with noise coming from the above room (stomping late at night). Security did try to follow this up but did not resolve this quickly. We complained to the Manager the next morning, who was very good and found an alternative loft family room( also recently refurbished); this was extremely comfortable. They also have daily activities which is good. We would recommend booking an upstairs room to ensure that you have no noise problems. We had a drink in Peppers Bar but found this rather dated and a little dark. Overall, our stay was very pleasant; good value.

Thank you for your comments. We agree that Peppers is dated and we are working on a plan to update the gatehouse in the near future. We hope to have a new restaurant sometime in early 2015.

We stayed at the Banff Rocky Resort the second week in May 2010.

Lets start off with the Pet Friendly Claim - Not so much!! While you pay $60 for your pup to stay with you, that the only place the DOG is ALLOWED!! We have a smaller cockapoo, non shedding and friendly...The resort offers many walks, in and around Banff, dogs are NOT welcome, even though it is a public path, you just cannot walk with the group. The reason "someone might be sacred of dogs"...if that is the case, then fine, but there was noone else on the walk I went on, it was just me and my husband, and our son and the guide...so why not? Also, there is no where for the dog to do his business...all the units that allow pets are together, so you would think that there would be an area for the dog to do his business...but it is only a parking lot. Once dark, you do not dare to go into the wooded areas, as there are NO lights, even close to the resort. Very poor planning.

The unit was small, just like all the other reviews mentioned, but clean and definatley liveable. We hve been to many other resorts, as we trade in our timeshare, but this is definaltey the smallest one we have ever stayed at.
The bedrooms are small, with not room for much more than the queen bed. The bed is comfortable. The closet is in the hallway. The bathrooms are renovated and are beautiful. The pull-out bed (couch) is old and has seen better days.
The is only one TV in the unit, which I found odd, not a big deal, but a second TV would be nice.

The interent is available for $11 a day / 24 hours...so bring your lap top. The internet is fast (faster than the high speed we have at home).

The facilities are nice, clean and modern. The pool is warm and the hot tubs, are excellent. Towels are provided as are bathing suit bags, to carry your wet suit back to the unit...

Laundry is $2 to wash and $2 to dry. Bring your own Tide and Bounce, as it is really expensive at the resort. The machines work really well, a 26 minute was cycle and a 60 minute dry cycle.

I had a massage at the resort, not the best one I have ever had, but okay. She charges $80 for an hour...comparative to prices at home.

also, the shuttle into town, did not allow dogs on board, so we did not use it. Same reason cited "that someone may be scared"...the shuttle was empty most of the time...

We were 4 adults and baby travelling together and pre booked a 2 bedroom appartment for 5 nights.

When we arrived we were amazed at the tight space we were expected to fit into. The appartment was miniscule and had less comfy chairs than people - how they can advertise this for up to 6 people I don't know .......... The 2nd bathroom opened out right onto the living area and there were no cupboards in either bedrooms - just a bed and small drawer unit. This gave no room for the travel cot we had for my nephew.

I went back to reception and ecxplained this - at first they completely adamant that the room was suitable so we started to leave. They then offered to give us 2 appartments for the same room price.

In the end my husband and I ended up in a studio appartment and my family with nephew in a one bed appartment - MUCH BETTER AND BIGGER
Kitchens are excellent - equipped with everything you could possibly need (they even supply dishwasher tablets!) Housekeeping in this establishment should be commended - they are great.
Location is good - the shuttle bus is excellent and only takes 9 mins into town and runs every hour to 11pm. service in resort cafe is slow and drinks overpriced.

I highly recommend this resort but be very careful what room type you book!

Approx 4 k from downtown. Nothing special to warrant the price. Everything is additional cost (wood, internet). Furnishings and decor appear to have been there since the '80s (or cast off from a Motel 6). Curtains would not close; maintenance repaired which made no difference as real problem is they are too small for the window. Hide-a-bed is broken but when mentioned to maintenance, he simply shrugged. It makes for a very poor sleep, as does the worn out mattress on the double bed. Fridge is very noisy; you can hear every step from the suite above; these further compound a poor night's sleep. Bathroom fixtures are dull and filmy. The hotel information says cleaning service is every four days, however, they have been in daily to replenish coffee and make the bed.

We had researched recommendation on this resort prior to booking and took other's advice to request a renovated unit. The resort accommodated our request and we were very pleased with our unit. The unit occupied 2 floors. Two bedrooms and large bathroom w/ shower/tub are on the 2nd floor. The second bathroom is on the 1st floor, with only a shower, although the shower is quite roomy. The living space on the main floor (living room, kitchen, dining area) is very adequate. The bedrooms, though, were very small and the furniture did not easily accommodate our needs, especially traveling with all of our ski clothing, etc. There were only 2 of us in a 2 bedroom unit, so we spread out our stuff in the unused bedroom. The unit is supposed to accommodate 6, but it would be very cramped. 4 would be max. The furniture looked pretty new, new cabinets and counters in the bathrooms and kitchen. The kitchen was well equipped. It was advertised as a limited kitchen, but it has a full size refrigerator, an apartment stove & oven, dishwasher and microwave. Although it's a ride into the center of Banff, we didn't mind it at all. There is usually no problem with parking in Banff. The resort has a shuttle that goes into the center of Banff pretty often and we noticed that the ski bus makes regular stops for those that need transportation to the ski resorts in the area. There is a bar/pub and a full service restaurant on the premises, although we did not try either of them. Even though our unit was on street side of the main road in and out of Banff, you couldn't really hear the traffic - of which there is little (except the neighbors on one side were very loud!).. We would definitely consider this resort were we to return to this area

If you are thinking about a stay at The Banff Rocky Mountain Resort, I recomend you rethink your plans. We booked 4 rooms for a stay with family for an "after Christams vacation", and will certainly never stay there again. Although we found the rooms a little better than average, and the price O.K., the credit card we used to hold the room was charged over 10 times for a total of over $2000.
For our 2 night stay the total bill was a little under $400, about $380, but our card was charged over $400 before we even checked in. Then, over the next 36 hours our card received so many charges from the resort our card was suspended due to what our cc company called "suspected fraudulent use". This left us with out funds for the remainder of our trip.
When we inquired about all of the charges we were told they were simply "authorization charges", but could not explain the 1 charge that totalled more than our room cost, nor could they explain all of the extra charges. Dispite the fact that they agreed we should never have received that many charges, it still took over 2 weeks for them to refund our card.
This was our biggest issue with the resort, but there were others. We were also over charged for our room. Since we had reserved as many rooms as we did we were offered a discounted rate. That rate was never honored, even when we brought it up, we were told the rate would be corrected, but it never was.
Also, if you do decide to take your chances with this resort, what ever you do, do NOT trust Peppers lounge. When we were there we waited 45 minutes one morning for a "quick" breakfast of a cinnamon bun & cup of fruit. There was only 1 other occupied table in the place. Another night we were able to order 1 drink, and then sat for over an hour with out being served.
If you are just looking to go out and party, and dont care about the service you may or may not receive, and you have the credit to handle the extra charges, OR if you are coming in late at night for a quick 1 night stay and gone in the morning, this might not be a bad place for you. But if you want to bring a family, are going to book ahead, or stay for more than 1 night, you are going to want to go somewhere else. Also if you want good service, I would recomend another hotel.

Either stay else where, or you take your chances.

The only good thing I can say about this resort is that Sesons restaurant was very nice, and we had a great meal there. But the meal we had was hardly worth the rest of the hassle we had to go through. I would not go out of my way to visit Seasons as I am sure there are other nice places to eat in Banff.
