Perfect Location! Clean, quiet and comfortable! I've stayed all over Banff and this is definetly the best hotel in the price range. I will Definetly be staying here again!

What this hotel doesn't have in the sleek modern furnishings of the chain hotels, it more then makes up for in location. Location, location, location baby. Its practically center strip if I was to use a Vegas term.

The hotel and room are super clean and tidy and they gave us a balcony room when we only were expecting a window. That was a nice surprise. The bed was super comfy and the overall stay was great. One thing that I quickly noticed was that there was no in room safe. But, on that note, nothing went missing.

The free breakfast is good, other then the layout. Sometimes you see a line entering the food station, but you should note that they are all waiting for the cooked to order eggs. Just say excuse me, grab a plate from between the line and move on to the rest of the buffet which has scrambles eggs, bacon, sausage, and mini pancakes, fresh fruit and cottage cheese, mini pastries and cereals. The servers will bring you juice and coffee and tea.

Whether you get shuttled in to the hotel or rent a car its good to note that the location is walking distance to all you'll need (when I say walking distance I'm talking minutes, not some hike for 15 min plus). Including a grocery store drug store, and this cool mall that is like a fancy looking mall, but only has a dozen or so stores, that range anywhere from the Gap to a western wear outfitter and even an electronics store and a Rexall. All along the strip there are restaurants and cafes and coffee shops and clothing and souvenir stores. So many local gift options of local made items -- soap, candy, etc. And for the cruise goers you'll feel you are in a cruise port with all the Ammolite stores although there are no Diamonds International stores :o.

If renting a vehicle, avoid the big monster ones if you have any hopes of parking in their underground garage. When you leave and return to the ug garage it can go from empty to full really quick. But, I should note, I'm not keen on tight parking spots, but I managed. Sometimes it took my partner as a spotter, but this is the norm at most parking garages.

As stated there are so many things to be done that are within walking distance but this includes many tourist stops, such as the river where you can kayak and canoe, the museum, the Fairmont Banff Springs etc.

Welcome home and thank you so much for such a detailed and helpful review. A few items to add information to;

In Room safes – we do not have safes in the room; however we offer complimentary safety deposit boxes at the front desk, with 24 hour access.
Parking - it can fill up quickly, however we do have a second level of underground parking and offer outside parking for those over sized vehicles, just inquire for direction at time of check in.

Again than you for your review and we hope to see you again for your next trip to the Rockies.

Having stayed many times in Banff we knew the standard of most of the hotels and we were not disappointed with the Ptarmigan.
We had an outside room which overlooked an adjacent building but it was very fresh & clean with comfortable beds.
Very pleasant staff so a great short stay as part of our fly/drive.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay. Our room was unbearably hot-there was no a/c and we each had to sleep with a fan pointed directly on us. We unfortunately got a room that had no windows to the outside and was overlooking the lobby. We had to listen to the breakfast crowd while trying to sleep as the door was open to attempt to get some air circulation. Great location and decent breakfast, but will not be staying here again and do not recommend it during the hot summer months for sure!

In a great part of town, very clean, wonderful front desk, have bikes available. Free Breakfast and not just continental style - made to order omlets.

Room Tip: Corner room near the stairs

Stayed here early July 2012. Great location, right downtown and easy to access all the shops and tourist attractions. Beds were very comfortable. Omelette breakfast is a nice bonus. We had some issues with the parking lot filling up at night and had to park on the street. Cleaning staff did not remove dirty dishes from the room. Overall a good place to stay for the price. I would probably stay here again given the price and location.

Welcome home and thank you for your review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed most of your stay and wanted to let you know that I have met with housekeeping to ensure that we are more diligent about removing dirty dishes from guest rooms. In regards to the lack of parking, during the peak season we occasionally experience a shortage and we are doing our best to patrol the parking areas, so we may improve the availability of parking spaces. Again thank you and we hope to see you again in the near future.
