“Most dirty ever seen in the mountains”
Reviewed August 29, 2007

Stayed only one night but felt like leaving early. The setting/place is wonderful but the lack of longterm hygiene is just unacceptable. Rings of fat around the showercabin and on the loose tubing of the bathtub. Dirt in the difficult to reach corners beside the beds. Loose hair etc. On complaining the only comment was 'thanks for telling'. Difficult to swallow a bill for CAD 387.09 for a single night without anything but some firewood in a disgusting room.

We just returned from a trip to the Canadian Rockies and spent three nights at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Although our stay was problem free we felt that the hotel and its dining room are overrated and overpriced.
I cannot say that our stay was bad, but we did think that other places we stayed on our trip provided much better value- and I would recommend shopping around before staying here.

We stayed one night in the Buffalo mountain lodge in their premier room and actually loved it! i'm not sure about others' comments about
"dark rooms" as i think the decor was very stylish and something that
you expect from an alpine style hotel. The premier room was very large with 2 double beds and bathroom was huge as well. if our travel
schedule would have permitted, I would have loved to stay there longer.

We had the bed& breakfast package and must say that the breakfast buffet was very good and among the best ones I saw during our 8 days trip through Banff and Jasper. I would definately recommend it.

Overall we (couple in their early 30's) were very happy with our stay, as the only downsides I would mention that the view from balcony wasn't much of a mountain view. Also, the average age among the fellow travellers seemed to be more in their 50's or 60's, so if you are younger and looking for people same age than you are, it might be quite hard to find in the BML.

Bottom line: allthough quite expensive, but a very nice and stylish hotel in a great, quiet location.

We stayed here as a family with 3 adult offspring and were disappointed to find that the 2 rooms did not have the enough separate beds to accommodate us. I understand it is difficult for hotels to get each parties sleeping needs perfect but the receptionist was very unhelpful and totally unsympathetic. We eventually solved the problem with a roll out bed which we squeezed in once we rearranged the furniture. We then had to ask for blankets which disappeared each day the room was made up. The walls are very thin and the plumbing very loud so none of us slept well. They also decided to paint the outside of our room so we had to climb over paint pots and avoid wet paint whenever we stepped outside. That is Ok but and apology
would have been nice. We decided after a long day to eat in the small restaurant, Cilentro. We could not make a reservation but we persevered and the meal was excellent. The food was very reasonably priced but the wine was expensive. Of the 7 hotels we stayed in on our Canadian trip his one was voted our least favorite despite being one of the most expensive. Staff not really interested.

We stayed for 4 nights. The room was very dark - this is due to the chalet-style wooden buldings, which we thought were quite attractive. We didn't have any road noise as we were at the back of the hotel - with quite a good view from the balcony. The hot tub was much too hot for us to use- the outside temp. was 30 degrees. Pity there's no pool. Gym was a bit pokey. The food in the restaurant was good, but pricey - as was the wine. The kid's food was good. We didn't eat breakfast, we had brought bowls and cereal - there's a little general store close by where we bought milk in the morning - no fridge in the room, but you can get ice from their machine. Interner access was free in the business suite which was useful. The bus stop is very convenient for getting into Banff centre. Although the bus home broke down a couple of times and we were left to walk. By the last day we discovered that it was hardly any more expensive to get a taxi home.

This is not great hotel by any standards. The room was very dark (not helped by dark decoration), and had thin walls so noisy neighbours could be a problem. No air-conditioning in +30C heat is not a good thing! The bed was comfy enough, and the bathroom was functional and clean. I'm sure there are better hotels in Banff, and this would be useless without a car as its a proper hike up the hill from the town centre. Its not cheap, and its not great value for money. Wouldn't recommed this one I'm afraid.

OK, it was hot weather- but why were all the hungry mosquitos in our room? Didn't have time to look at the facilites although first impressions suggest this place is overpriced. Manager handled our unexpected departure well.
