We were very pleased with the accomodations and service at Buffalo Mountain Lodge.
We had booked a "deluxe" queen room which is actually their standard, having decided that we weren't prepared to pay a few hundred dollars more for their "Premiere" room, which offered the added benefits of a claw foot bathtub and heated bathroom tiles.
Our room was lovely - a bit dark as some reviewers have mentioned, but cozy and comfortable and not at all cramped. The bed had a feather mattress cover and a real down duvet. The sitting area consisted of two mission-style chairs facing a stone, wood-burning frireplace which was cleaned out and re-laid daily. There was also a writing desk and chair, and a small balcony that looked out over the woods.
We ate at the hotel twice. The first night we tried Cilantro, which was very good, and the next morning we decided to have the hotel breakfast - delicious but pricey.
This was a ski trip for us, so we left very early every morning and were out all day. We found the location of the lodge suited our needs, since it is a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Banff, but near enough to get to town quickly.
We were also pleased with the service. It was efficient but unobtrusive. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed here early December , earlyin the season with my girlfriend. We lucked out as ther was reasonable snow fall for that time of year, but I'm told it only happend like that every 10 yrs or so. The Lodge is 10 minutes to nearby skiing.
It was overall a wonderful experience. I recommend the upstair lofts. The rooms are large enough with heated floors. Ther fire placed is cleaned daily and "ready to go" by the time you get back from a day's skiing.
Our room was set off in the woods a bit, with a beautiful view of nearby mountains. It's a very romantic spot. It does have a "lodge" feel to it.
The restaurant that is in the main lodge is truly outstanding. Do not miss eating there for both breakfast and dinner. It is a bit on the pricy side, but it is a can't miss. I esp. rec the french toast!
I would definitely stay here again.

This place was what we were looking for. A rustic romantic mountain theme hotel to celebrate our lake louise wedding for the weekend. There were lots of people in the hotel, but you wouldnt know it, for how quiet it was. The parking is limited so there were vehicles everywhere. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. The food and the staff at the restaurant was very good, but do take your wallet as it is expensive. They knew that we got married that day and gave us a decorative plate for our dessert. The rooms are dark as previously mentioned but we were not in our room during the day too much, and at night enjoyed sitting by the fire with our bottle of wine. Our friends room faced the west side and was in the upper floor and they had lots of windows so their room wasn't as dark. Every morning and evening the deer would come by and visit. I would go back to this resort anytime, it made our wedding weekend unforgettably beautiful.

We recently stayed at this hotel for five nights. On arrival we were upgraded from a deluxe room to a premier room (presume this is because we booked direct with the hotel). The room was really nice, two queen sized beds, clawfoot bath, large shower cubicle and of course, the log fire (which on the 1st night my husband did set off the smoke alarm despite me telling him to pull the damper as advised by others on Tripadvisor!)

We did have a problem on the 1st night between the hours of 3-4.30 am when the occupants of the unit above us seemed to be having a party and it was very noisy. The toilet must have been flushed about a dozen times and furniture seemed to be being moved. I telephoned the front desk and they got security out to quieten them down, it did take two attempts but I believe they were threatened with being evicted if security were to come back again. Management couldn't apologise enough and they gave us the 1st night free because of this.

We had a meal in the restaurant and if you like fine dining then this a very good place to eat at. Absolutely excellent, I have never tasted ribeye steak like it!

Despite the problems the 1st night I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We stayed in a King Plasma Suite and it was gorgeous. Huge King size bed in enormous room with large plasma tv, separate dining/kitchen/lounge area with open fireplace. It was very clean and everything was gorgeous, great to relax in after a hard days skiing. It is approx 15-20min walk into town but half way down the hill there is steps that take you down onto Banff Ave so just have to carry on down there into the main centre. Just watch it coz the steps can be a bit slippy. We did walk a couple of times but as there was four of us we usually got a taxi which was usually $7-8 so same as the bus which is $2 each. I would definately recommend this hotel. Banff does not really have the aprez ski culture that other ski resorts have, so we found it best to dump our ski gear, relax in the outdoor hot tub and then get ready and go into town for the evening. The out door hot tub is gorgeous. If you are there to ski the ski buses pick you up just outside the hotel. Also there is a small grocery store, liquor store, launderette just 30secs from the hotel, from the hotel, the shops are just behind the lounge area of the douglas fir hotel. There are lots of really good restaurants in Bannf, would recommend the Grizzly House, they do a very good 3 course set dinner for $40, although I would suggest not wearing anything you want to wear again whilst you are away as you do come away smelling. It is a great place if you want to try aligator, shark, elk, frogs legs, caribou etc. Also Earls restaurant on corner of Banff Ave above the Abominable Ski Store is also very good. But the best we found for dinner and breakfast was Melissas. We visited more than once. It is located on Lynx Street which is sort of parallel to Banff Ave. We did alot of skiing whilst we were there and went in a ski school for 3 days - clubski - the instructors are fantastic - definately worth it - and for only about £120 for the 3 days, whcih gives you a day on each mountain with a instructor and the rest of your group. I think Banff is gorgeous and would definately return and stay at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge. The only negative part of the Buffalo Lodge is that there is no tv in the lounge area in the plasma suites and also the breakfast we had in the lobby one morning was not very nice, they forgot to bring the toast and when it did arrive it was burnt and cold, so would not recommend that, but the breakfasts at the ski resorts are good and there are lots of places in Banff town that do breakfasts.

A four-star hotel this is not. There are conflicting reports on how many stars this hotel has, but the agency I booked through led me to believe it was 4-star. Wrong. I'd pay maximum $100/night for the deluxe room at the Buffalo Mtn. Lodge. With no room service, dim lighting, a bathroom fan about ready to (loudly) spin off its hinges, grout coming up off the bathroom floor...nope, not 4-star. The sheets are really rough on the skin, and everything is a bit cheap, except the price you're paying. The highlight of the room is the fireplace. Nice touch, but it doesn't make everything else right. A premier room will cost you an extra $50/night, but the people who are raving about the place stayed in a premier room. Check you bookings.

  • Liked — The fireplace in the room was the highlight.
  • Disliked — The sheets were scratchy, rough, and uncomfortable.

Chose the Buffalo Mtn Lodge for our White Christmas after reading reviews on this site. Drove up to reception and 3 deer strolling around outside set the scene. Stunning. Had a premier room with fireplace and huge bathroom. Balcony overlooking a forest of pines was lovely but would request a room overlooking the valley at the back if going again. Jaw dropping view. A negative is that the rooms are extremely dark and during the short winter days this is an issue. We had to move suitcases under lights to see what we were looking for. It sounds like I'm complaining, but this is far from it. We couldn't have been happier with BML. Wouldn't get me in one of those places on Banff Ave if you paid me, No atmosphere. If you don't have a car, you can either stroll down the hill into town or catch the local bus from right outside for $2 per person. Ate in the restaurant on Christmas morning and it was very good. Everything cooked perfectly. If ever our travels take us back to Banff, we would definately stay here again.
