We stayed here three nights in August 2014 in a king size bedroom suite. The room was not ready on time and we were asked to come back in an hour. Not impressed and not even an offer of another room that was ready or complimentary tea or coffee. So we went down to Banff, had a coffee and returned on the hour. Our room was ready with the usual apologies. We were left to lift our own heavy luggage up two flights of stairs from the car park 200 plus meters away. So far a very bad experience. However, the room was very nice as was the bathroom so that made me feel a bit better. The breakfast the next morning was very good and the overall appearance of the hotel was very good. Free wi fi available and a nice outdoor spa was another two nice touches. Overall a nice experience after the first very poor performance. Take note hotel and step up in these areas.

Room Tip: Try to ensure the room does not face the road that runs up the side of the property. It can get nois...

This was a lovely resort with great staff and amazing food! We had the whole building to ourselves, which made it feel that much more intimate. The food service staff were pleasant and personable with all of the guests. They even made sure that the young children had drinks during the cocktail hour. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

We stayed here 20 years ago on our honeymoon and returned this summer. It was great to be back! The hotel is up away from the bustle and traffic of the town with wonderful views of the mountains. We had a one bed room with fireplace which was spacious and clean. The carpet was stained tho and the entertainment center didn't really fit...? We could hike right from the grounds. The hot tub is large but a bit dangerous as it is all stainless steel - you slip stepping into the tub. The restaurant is fabulous and service is wonderful. We will return to this lodge!

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our wonderful Canadian holiday mostly booked through Kuoni Travel UK.
I have to admit that, in spite of the excellent welcome we received at reception, the initial impression of our ground floor room was dark and a little daunting. The day was dull which didn't help and the lovely trees outside masked what little light there was. However, it gradually grew on me and the provision of a log fire ready for lighting (which I lit!) made a great deal of difference later on giving the room a lovely warming atmosphere. The following day the grate was reset for us but the weather had warmed up a little so I didn't use it again. It was a lovely facility to have on hand however.
After having driven from Jasper that day we decided to stay at the Lodge for the evening and eat in their restaurant. This was a good move as the food, wine and our waitress, Brie, were all first rate. The restaurant has an esoteric old world atmosphere and is delightful.
We went out for a meal in Banff (v. my review of The Bison restaurant) the following night for a change but had our final meal at the Lodge in the bar area, The food and service (from our same waitress Brie - nothing cheesy about her! Sorry, couldn't resist that!) was yet again first rate.
If we were to visit Banff again we would certainly go for this hotel again although they need to do something to improve the parking for residents which I found a little awkward at times.
One other benefit from a UK perspective was that I was able to settle the bill with my credit card in GB pounds saving the commission on the currency transfer.
P. S. If you are birders it's worth exploring the grounds and local area around the hotel too. An early(ish) morning walk before breakfast was very productive.

Room Tip: Go for an upstairs room if you can as they are probably brighter in aspect than the ground floor roo...

I loved this place! The room was wonderful, ask for a premier room, the bed nice, the bathroom was great, it was huge with a heated floor!!
The room had a fireplace, which we didn't get to use because they were having a heat wave while we were there!! We had a balcony with the greatest view of a meadow where the elk came out every evening!!
The staff were so helpful, telling us about some great hikes and places to see! They also had a wonderful cheese and cracker plate with a lovely note telling me happy birthday! What a treat!
The restaurant was very nice, the food wonderful and the staff very friendly!!
We would stay here again for sure, next time making it a longer stay!!
Thanks to everyone for making our stay special!!

Room Tip: Make sure you spend the extra money for a premier room, top floor!

We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain lodge in August for 2 nights in a room on the upper floor of the 900 block. It was a great spacious room with a high wooden lodge ceiling, comfy bed and a big bathroom with a full-size bath and separate shower. There isn't any air conditioning, but the high ceiling and fan in the room meant it was pleasantly cool.

The hotel is about 1.5 kilometres from downtown Banff, which is walkable during the day. Probably best to drive at night. It was great being in a secluded location up in the mountain.

We did not use any of the hotel facilities such as the restaurant or hot tub as our visit was so short. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms will have higher ceilings.

The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
