Second time at the BML, a double room in the 900s this time. Room was warm and clean, but quite dark. Bed comfortable and bar small but welcoming. Breakfast not too fabulous, my other half's fruit assortment turned out to be 3 different kinds of melon, but the rest was OK.
Room showed some tired touches (loose hinges and knobs) but nothing serious, but floorboards from room above creak noticeably.
Like it says, solid but unspectacular.

Of all the places we stayed during our Honeymoon, this was one of the best. We had a huge room with a huge bed and this was just one of the standard rooms. It was great to be overlooking the mountains and we had deer grazing outside of our window. We also had a treat of chocolates and strawberries waiting for us when we arrived.

Would definitely return.

My husband and I attempted to stay at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge on our honeymoon. We made our reservations through the Lodge's own website 7 MONTHS in advance, knowing that July is the busy season. We were so excited based off the positive reviews on this site. When we arrived we were told that there was no reservation in our name. We produced all of our paperwork and confirmation number, but to no avail. The woman behind the desk told us that somehow they had lost our reservation. She did not offer to do anything, until we prodded her and said, "Well, what are you going to do about this??" Then she offered us a room with two double beds. We reminded her that we were on our honeymoon, and didn't want two double beds. We wanted the suite we had booked 7 months ago. She told us there was nothing she could do. We stood at that desk trying to be polite even though we were extremely disappointed and starting to get upset. Eventually she called the manager (who was not at the hotel) and the manager authorized us a "king plasma suite". This sounded great, and we gladly accepted.

Our King Plasma Suite was located directly across from the lobby, so close that we picked up the wireless signal on our laptop (the ONE advantage of this place) so we could reseach and book a different room at another location. (We chose Paradise Bungalows in Lake Louise which was SO MUCH BETTER.) The king suite was very dark (only one ceiling light in an odd corner, not centered in the room). We had to close the blinds for any privacy because there were people going in and out of the main building all day (that window was in the bedroom). The living area windows faced a very busy road and a bar that was open late. There is no A/C, and it was very hot. We called and asked the desk for a room with A/C and they sent a man to bring us a small electric fan. The suite overall was very old...it seemed like every carpet or upholstered surface was very worn. I don't know if it was clean, but it looked dirty just from being so worn. Our stairwell to our door was hot and swarming with mosquitos and spider webs. We loved the stainless steel hot tub but could NOT stay in it because we were dive-bombed by hundred of mosquitos (obviously not a fault of the lodge, but I would advise not going to Banff in July). The suite had a plasma TV, but we couldn't stand being in the room long enough to want to watch TV. It was not at all what we expected, and we called the manager and checked out immediately the next morning.

We are so disappointed in the BML. It nearly ruined our honeymoon. I saw all of the great photos and it turned out that none of that came true for us!

Loved the location, the room, the view, the food and service. We had a 2nd floor room in the 900 block. The view was amazing, the room was very large. It was really nice to wake up and see the sun strike the mountains and the whole room start to glow. The room had a fireplace and firewood was provided.

The bathroom was huge with both a claw foot tub and a shower stall. The floor was stone and heated. There was lots of space to place ditty bags, makeup, etc. There were robes and lots of thick towels.

We spent 3 nights here in September and loved it. Based on earlier reviews, we got a Premier Room and it was huge. Nice fireplace, huge bathroom and comfortable chairs and beds.

The room is painted in a dark brown and all the colors are rather dark, giving it a lodge feeling, but perhaps leading to all the comments about dark rooms. Lighter colors on the walls would help a bit.

We were in room 1106 and had a lovely view of a mountain and meadow (mule deer in the evening!).

The room was a little warm and we wound up opening the windows a lot to cool it down. The thermastat didn't seem to help, maybe it was the room below us?

I would definately recommend a room in the back of the property for quietness and view.

The town of Banff itself was kind of a disappointment. Lots of construction going on, so that didn't help. But we much preferred Jasper and Waterton Lakes to Banff.

Lovely upstairs appartment- chalet style. With great open fire- very welcome in June when it was still chilly. Facilities good and helpful staff. Good local bus service into town and a short reasonable $7taxi ride home. Try not to take a pyromaniac fire starter with you- can't stop fiddling with the fire- giving it a poke!

Stayed only one night but felt like leaving early. The setting/place is wonderful but the lack of longterm hygiene is just unacceptable. Rings of fat around the showercabin and on the loose tubing of the bathtub. Dirt in the difficult to reach corners beside the beds. Loose hair etc. On complaining the only comment was 'thanks for telling'. Difficult to swallow a bill for CAD 387.09 for a single night without anything but some firewood in a disgusting room.

The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
